"Rude, we have been going in circles for the past half hour. Tell me you know where we are one more time, and I take off the other ear." Reno was getting bored. When he got bored, he got cranky. He figured finding Kalm Town should be cake... just find someplace that has more buildings than trees, a rarity in this area.
He sighed and shifted his weight. "Are we there yet?"
Rude grumbled something unprintable at the steering wheel. "All right, I'll pull over next hotel or gas station I see... if it'll make you shut up."
Reno nodded mutely. The trail's getting colder by the second. We gotta step on it!
They finally found the way into town and stopped off at the Inn. The car needed gas and Rude said he refused to try fighting a Sephiroth remnant without nine solid hours of sleep to back him up. So much for following the trail while it's still hot. Reno paced back and forth in aggravation while he waited for the innkeeper to put gas in the tank with a garage canister of gasoline. He'd better be kidding about the sleep part.
Rude, meanwhile, was asking a few careful questions of the local folk and had requested Nikkole do the same, to see if they could pick up any hint of the Ragnorak nearby...

Rude returned to Reno. "A couple kids saw a ship settle down near the outskirts, halfway between here and the mines."
Reno looked warily at his partner. "Can you hold off the nap attack until we check it out?"
"I was trained go without sleep for a week. Of course I can."
Reno nodded, his energy returned. "Nikky! We're on our way!"
He waited for her to get back in the car, and the pair made their way to the outskirts...

Gdosimirj tied her chocobo outside the Inn and went inside, digging in her bag for some money. She came to the desk.
"Room for one, one night, please." She slid her money across the desk, then leaned in confidentially. "And you don't happen to have anyone on your register by the name of Amnesty Lazuli, do you?"
The man did a double take. "That information is generally confidential."
Gdosimirj sighed. "I knew it would be. It's just very important. I would say she's a friend of mine. One of the few." Her eyes bored into the man's head, and he felt his resolve weakening. She was using the ability of charisma to persuade him. She hated relying on the powers Jenova gave her, but she had no choice. In a way, she was using Jenova's own powers against her.
The man ran a search through the register. "I can't believe I'm doing this. You better not be a spy from the Union, or my job's gone." He shook his head. "Doesn't matter. No Amnesty Lazuli."
"Oh. Well, thank you anyway." Gdosimirj went upstairs to her room, letting her hair down and lying on the bed. Sleep was very important in finding Amnesty...

Gdosimirj lay on the bed, still as stone. It was even difficult to detect her breathing. But every so often her eyes fluttered with green light.
She was searching...
So many eyes, so many windows. She peered through the eyes of one young girl and saw balloons. She shifted to the eyes of the balloon man that held them and saw a group of children clamoring, holding out money. She leapt a great distance and looked through the eyes of a waitress in a bar, seeing a mess left on a table. The waitress glanced up at a bouncer who was crossing the room to settle a disturbance. She shifted to the eyes of the bouncer and saw a drunken man yelling loudly.
Where are you, Amnesty?
She leapt again, into the eyes of a boy. He was on a beach, watching in dismay as enormous waves rolled in. He glanced at his mother, who was looking at the skies. Intrigued, Gdosimirj leapt into her eyes and peered at the sky. There was a ship coming in...
I must be getting close. I can feel you.

Gdosimirj jumped into the eyes of a girl on theship. Funny- everything was clouded over and fuzzy. She realized that the girl was crying. She waited for the girl to focus.
Wait a second... that red hair is all too familiar.
The girl blinked her tears away, and Gdosimirj realized that she was looking directly at an old associate of hers- Reno!
She woke up, sitting bolt upright in bed, gasping for air. Never thought I'd see him again... Reno was a Turk, one of the more or less infamous- not as much for his fighting skills as his mouth and for his partner. Gdosimirj knew where she found Reno, she would find Rude. She was no Turk and she'd only encountered them briefly- but she wondered whether she would be in trouble with Shinra if she came into contact with them again.
She shook her head as she laid down again, curiosity overtaking her. I'm in way over my head here... but I must be on the right track. Where an experiment of Shinra is, a Turk closely follows.
Gdosimirj closed her eyes, focusing her breathing so as to return to the sleeping state...

Gdosimirj twitched slightly as she lay on the bed, small beads of sweat forming on her brow. She had entered the sleeping state forcefully, using more of her energy than she liked in order to relocate the ship on that beach. It would only be a matter of time before they left, as they had been coming in for a landing last time she saw it.
We're almost there...
She found the eyes of a boy, the scene viewed through them shaking like a home video. The ship must have encountered turbulence... His eyes focused on a girl in front of him.
Electricity practically zapped through Gdosimirj's body as she recognized the silver haired warrioress. Her hair was no longer silver, her eyes no longer green, but her presence was unmistakable.
She wasted no time in locking into Amnesty's eyes. She watched as she dug for money, then paid close attention as Ami peeked outside. Gdosimirj scanned the horizon for any clue of where she was, and finally noticed a sign on a nearby bakery...
She opened her eyes with a sigh of relief.
"Junon."
************
It wasn't fifteen minutes before Gdosimirj was packed and on the road again.
It wouldn't be long now...

Xima's cycle rolled to a stop outside the Inn. She parked it and secured it as the engines hummed down to dormancy... Organic semi-sentient technology. There is something to be said for being the mistress of the head of the world's foremost company in defense tech.
She knew none of her currency would be any good in this time and place, so she simply slashed and shot her way through the looby, retrieved a key, and returned to Rufus. "It seems we are in Room 113." The baby, disturbed by the commotion, fussed a little. "Oh, shh... sweetheart... nothing to be upset about. They'll all meet the same end," she soothed sweetly, removing the child from her carrier and cradling her softly.
Xima secured the baby in her right arm and took Rufus' hand with the other. She led the way towards their room, unlocking it and carefully giving the baby over to him as she saw the twin beds inside... Perfect. It took a few moments, but soon she had the pillows and blankets on the further mattress arranged into a comfortable, secure place for their baby to rest. Xima tenderly took the infant back from her father and kissed her tiny cheek, her maternal instincts in full motion as she lay the little one down to rest. "Try to sleep, my child... you have had a long morning." She stroked the sleepy baby's face and hummed softly as it gradually relaxed and drifted into dreams...
With a deep sigh of satisfaction, Xima stood to meet her mate and pulled him into a passionate kiss. "Our first moment alone since this whole d**ned war started," she whispered, wrapping her arms around his neck as she felt her temperature rise. "You were lucky... the decade was oblivion for you... I was trapped... locked in my own cells... alone..." She pulled him against her, breathing deeply. "I thought of you... of your touch... of our children... and how they came to be..." She pressed her hungry lips to his again, indulging herself... she had fought long and enough... against the rebels, against her desire... she had earned this moment...

Rufus kissed her back passionately, holding her close to him.
"Well while the decade was oblivion to me... Death is still death and and memories of better times... Like those you just mentioned... can drive a man insane." He said, a grin forming on his face.

She relaxed against him, letting free a deep sigh... the one she had told herself she would save for the day the war ended. But it WILL end today, so help me G**. This war is over... it was over the moment we came here... the moment we produced our daughter... our magnificent Jenova, who has indeed surpassed us all, as I predicted she would.
She tightened her arms around him, letting his warmth soak into her. Nearly a year a year since my daughter revived me, took my soul from its lurking place inside my petrified cells and deposited it into a vacant body so nearly matching the one I once possessed...
As my vision cleared, and sensation returned to those limbs of clay... I discovered she had first revived her father, cloned from the genes he had deposited in her blood, along with a few other samples stolen from her brother to complete the code... Rufus' consciousness had been restored by the ancestral memories she had stored within her mind, transplanted to him...
I was draped in a sheet, like a corpse in a morgue... and indeed I felt as though I was returning from the dead... frozen stiff, until I felt his hand in mine, his voice calling my name... my fingers twitched in his grasp, and I could feel hope surge through him... I gathered the strength to sit up, and my daughter smiled approvingly... she had accomplished yet another phase in her plan to restore her fragmented family... I looked at her and smiled, pride filling me as I saw how beautiful and brilliant she had become...
Then I turned to Rufus... my mind was still in a haze, still half dormant from so many years in the stone... I wrapped my arms around him and leaned my head on his neck as I had done so long before, in a moment of vulnerability and fear... the many years of captivity had weakened me, and I could do nothing but cling to him...
His arms went around my freezing form and he held me close, in a way that told me he had longed for my touch again, as I had longed for his... our child methodically began to clean and reset the machine from which she had reignited the spark of my existence as my icy lips moved to his, and I felt passion in his kiss... I only regretted the loss of years for us to raise our children together, until young Jenova explained her plan, the reason she had restored us... at first to retake this world by our combined power... and finally to send us back to the point of her origins as a victory gift for herself...
The year that followed was filled with blood and strife... but we were together again... and together, we were invincible.
"Better memories still we have forged together," she said quietly, leaning on him. "And better yet are to come... we will reclaim the family we once had, and our dreams will become reality... we will fulfill the nightmares of our enemies... and rain down punishment on them for seperating us." She pulled him down to kiss her again, intoxication soothing her mind...

Rufus shut his eyes, allowing the memories of the better times flood his mind. Seeing the deaths of those that opposed him for so long had been the greatest moments of his life.
"Our fallen foes..." He started, opening his eyes again. "It looks like the fates favor us for now... They brought back all our victims just so we could have the pleasure of slaughtering each of them AGAIN... one by one. And your brother will see to it that they are properly prepared for that."

She leaned her head against his, laughing quietly. "But let's not forget... he's not under our thumb now as he was then. Twelve years of running and hiding, of protecting my Mother and taking her orders... here, they have not had any impact on him. And that means he is far more dangerous... to both of us. The battle at the monument was more testament than I ever needed to that."
She kept her arms around his waist, gazing into his eyes. "To think it would someday come to this... It never occurred to me, when I first walked into your office --not so long ago in this age, but so distant a time from whence we came-- that one day I would find myself... here." She held him and remembered... the sparring, the deals, the seduction, the twisted bond that had finally formed between them... She lit on the memory of the Massacre, a night she considered the crowning glory of their return. "Do you remember... barely a week after we were revived... when we entered the room, the entire hall fell silent... all the idle chatter froze in the mouths of thier speakers... They were seeing a ghost, and an Abomination on his arm in a black gown... a child dressed in red silk walking before them, an ancient soul hiding behind her eyes... All eyes were on us when they should have been on her... she sent me the word, and in their full sight we kissed... and in the moment of shock, she cut the power to the entire lighting system of the building. There was gunfire, slicing, blood... and when the lights came on, only we and our daughter stood alive in the room... a final taste of irony as I lit the building on fire with a bomb made out of a champagne bottle from the banquet table... we walked alone out of the flames and let the glow of it warm us..."
She leaned against him. "Just think... we get to do all that, all over again... over a decade early... can you imagine the world we will create, with so much time?"
She placed her arm around his neck. "One glorious year... and now we have twelve more... twelve more to start over and make things the way they always should have been..." She brushed her lips against his neck as her words ran dry.

Rufus smiled at the thought of a head-start on making their new world.
"And the pompous morons will have even less of their lives to live this time around... Somehow the fire that consumed them still keeps me warm at night..."

Xima moved her mouth towards his ear. "I thought that was my job," she whispered, a smirk forming on her face, as she slid her hand under his coat and down his side, staying close to him. "What of you? Which memory is your favored one?"
She delayed his answer slightly by one more passionate kiss, as ever a creature of instinct...

He kissed her back just as passionately and looked at her devious eyes as the memories flickered across both her's and his.
"I think its a tie between destroying your other and slaughthering Reno and Rude." He said, chuckling. "Both were VERY satisfying experiences."
