Squall smiled down at her, " I thought you might like... I was worried youd be jealous!" he laughed and gave her a little squeeze, " Lets go," Squall sat on the bike and leant back, signalling her to sit infront of him, he smiled up at her " Just enough space for you here,"

She smiled and climbed aboard in front of him, snuggling back against him, enjoying the feel of him seated behind her... she felt warmer and happier than she had since before the journey to Hidden Island. She leaned back and kissed him for a moment. "I'm ready."

She returned several hours later. One could tell... if anything, this goodbye had been even worse than the last.
She came back to the fire and sat next to it, holding her coat around her as the motorcycle sped off into the night. She buried her face in her knees and cried.
Vincent heard her silent weeping. He had intended to scold her for leaving her post. But it seemed the mere act of doing so had been punishment enough.
He left her to her heartbreak, asking no questions.
****
The next day, Amnesty seemed far more quiet and reserved than usual... in fact, that morning she barely spoke at all.
What did he do to you? What did he say?
They folded up the tarp and collected their things. Amnesty unlocked the back of her cycle and put them in. He noticed her eyes had dark circles under them. Even after her guard shifts had ended, she never did fall asleep. Every time he looked back at the tent, he could see her moist eyes peering out into the night. Not that she ever noticed him looking.
Perhaps some real heartbreak will do you good.
Surely it will better prepare you for what you soon will see.
"It might be a good idea for me to steer the cycle today, Ami," Vincent hinted.
She glanced at him and shook her head. She climbed aboard and jammed her key into the ignition.
She closed her eyes for a moment, trying to shove away the pain. It shouldn't have ended like this.
Not after all we've been through.
Vincent joined her. She pulled herself together and started the engine.
They roared away, up to the airport.

*Vroooom* Squall raced through lower Junon on his bike. Speeding past other cars and pedestrians, he coudln't make out what was driving him but he felt an incredible urge to be going somewhere. Building merged into an endless grey blur. No noise penetrating his ears other than the roar of his engine. Flying through a red light he carried on, desperately trying to figure out where he was going... With a sudden woosh of fresh air he was out of junon, snapping him back to his senses. He raced over the great Junon plains as fast as he could, his mind was working overtime, thoughts of what the others might be doing, where he could find them, his brain whirred frantically, faster and faster... " Argh!" He let out a cry of pain, his body jerked violently and almost instantly his vision began to cloud over, What the hell? Another one?! Dammit!... Untidily he jammed the brakes on his bike and slid to a halt. Shapes began to appear in his head, dancing around before merging together to form a sinister figure with a shining gunblade, his face and figure were completely dark and impossible to make out. Squall staggered off his bike and dropped to the ground in a heap, his head in his hands. Slowly a wry smile became visible, the white of his teeth illuminating the vision, the figure began to laugh as and he did so the white became more and more intense, filling his vision and hiding the dark figure until all Squall could see was a bright light. Suddenly a high pitched scream rang out, followed by the unmistakable slashbang of a gunblade. Squall clutched at his head, shaking in pain, Was that...? his body went limp as he slipped out of conciousness.

When he woke, a vauge light imposed itself on his senses.
Kadaj was sitting a few feet away from him, hunched over beside a campfire. His bike and Squall's were parked on either side of it to form a windbreak.
The two were in the middle of a field, just about a mile or two from the edge of town. Judging from the huge skidmark in the middle of the field, Squall had crashed shortly after going unconscious. And judging by the neatly crushed grass, Kadaj had been not far behind.
His mouth was set into a grim line, eyes cold. His hands moved methodically over his blades as he ground a slab of pumice over them, sharpening them. "You've been in a bad way, Squall," he commented quietly, with unmistakeable anger. "Care to explain? Explain why you left my sister bleeding through the heart, and then almost got yourself killed driving a motobike through a field in the middle of the night while experiencing a repressive psychic episode?" He put away the pumice and leveled the blade at Squall. "I told you that if you ever broke my sister's heart, I'd break yours. Literally. But for the moment, I'd just as soon hear an explanation. Because if I kill you now and find out I've misunderstood something, my sister won't quit until I have comitted hara kiri with these same blades."

Squall rubbed his eyes and sat up, " you been following me?" he said in a tone not far removed from Kadaj's. He was the last person I wanted to wake up too... Care to explain?? He thought to himself. Its none of your business. he sat there for a moment gazing at Kadaj, "its not how it sounds." Squall got up and slowly walked over to his bike. He squatted beside it and picked some mud and grass off of the pedals. "How is everyone?" He asked innocently, trying to avoid the topic of conversation.

Kadaj followed him, his sword never straying far from its mark. "Don't play innocent with me," he instructed cooly. "And don't try to throw me off. How they have been doing is immaterial. How you are doing right now is incredibly relevant. And how you are doing is 'not well'." He advanced, cornering him against the cycle. "Tell me, if it isn't how it sounds, then how is it? Why did you leave her? What, in all bluntness, happened?" He assumed a casual tone. "Anything to do with those dreams you've been having lately?"

Squall stared at him, he seriously considering running me through? " You know about my dreams?..." Squall wasnt sure if he was happy that someone believed he was dreaming or dissapointed that he was so readable. " Is everyone alright?" he repeated, I havent seen them in months... least he could do is fill me in a little? Squall stared up at him, anger building up inside him, not so much for the fact hed drawn a weapon on him, but for the interrogation he had nothing to do with. This is my problem. Squall let out a sigh and stood up, drawing his gunblade. " You gonna kill me?|

Kadaj did look as though he was seriously considering the possibility. But after a moment, he sheathed his sword. "No. I know what lies in your mind. Why you ran from her. But I had hoped if you related the story to me out loud, you could hear for yourself how stupid you're being." He gazed at the man levelly. "You know as well as I do, she would do anything for you. This ploy, this facade about not caring for her? It's nothing but an insult to her judgement." He shook his head and stood back to give him some space. "Tell her you lied, Squall. You know you'll both be miserable until you do."

thankyou. Squall sheathed his gunblade and sat back on his bike. " If youve seen my dreams... Cant you understand why I left?" Squall thought back over his vision, I cant trust myself... he looked at kadaj, " How many people do you know with a gunblade?" Me... Just me... " I think... Im going to kill someone..." He agreed that might sound stupid, hed killed hundreds of people before, but hed never had a vision like this before... " I... Dont know what to do"

Kadaj shook his head slowly. "You're trying to protect her from yourself. That I can understand. But what I can't understand is why you're so afraid that she will want to help you. Why don't you trust her?" He started kicking dirt over the fire. "At worst, she'll declare undying devotion and stay unconditionally by your side and all that sentimental c**p. Or, she could be mature and level-headed enough to realize you need time to figure things out on your own." He shot a stiff glare into Squall's eyes. "If you really must insist on reassurance, here it is. This is a regressive episode. That could mean many things, but one thing it means invariably: whatever you see, it's already happened."

"Regressive?..." Squall pondered the word for a moment, " how do you know that?" he sat silently trying to think back, but his head was in a muddle. He shook his head, " That doesnt change anything, I still dont know what it means?" He thought about Ami, I was trying to protect her? Surely I did the right thing? He looked at Kadaj, " Just... leave me alone." Squall couldnt make sense of any of it, whos to say Ami would have been so supportive and understanding? For all I knew i thought i was going to kill her?

"Leave me alone, leave me alone," Kadaj mimicked. "When it comes to the easy battles-- killing monsters and saving planets and so on-- you have it all figured out. But when you come to the really crucial ones... when you're forced to fight yourself... all of a sudden you somehow you think going it alone is a fabulous change in strategy." He climbed onto his cycle and glanced back. "Trust someone who's been down this road. Get reinforcements, or this fight is good as lost."
He started the engine. "You're trying to do the right thing, I'll give you that. That's more than I can always say for myself. But if you won't give her a chance to make her own decision, rise or fall on its own merits, then there's the road. You can go ahead and ride out of her life. G** knows I won't stop you. Not when she could have better than that."

As Kadaj roared back towards the Inn, leaving Squall to digest what he'd said, a faint vibration reached him. Yazoo... wait. He's in pain... pain? He never lets himself feel, period, and he indulges in pain least of all.
He sped up, headed back for the Inn. Another set of vibrations reached him... Ami?
G**!
He sighed with relief. FINALLY, she comes within range!
He cranked up the speed and instructed Ami to meet him at the Inn... the sun was already rising, and they were running out of time to escape without drawing attention...
