"I might have noticed if, first, he hadn't dyed it, and second, if I hadn't been in the middle of a mortal struggle when I met him," Kadaj protested. He watched the child slump. "Hmm. The tragic courage of children once again fails to compensate for their physical limitations. Poor kid." He bent to pick up the boy and looked back up at Nikky. "As for the keeling over part... that's a distinct possibility. I think Vikktor was starving him," he explained quietly, moving the boy to the couch to lie down and rest.
Reno sighed. "Let me guess... he's gonna be sleeping in here, right?" So much for our "movie time".

Nikky laughed a bit. "I was kidding around Kadaj, chill out. Sheesh." She looked down and watched Kadaj pick up and carry her little brother. "Yeah..."
She stopped and scowled. "B*st*rd." She muttered before sighing. "At least we found him first...."
She looked over at Reno and snuggled against him a bit. "Awww come on. He's my baby brother..." She smiled and kissed him lightly. "We can't leave him with Kadaj." she teased again, grinning over at Kadaj.

Kadaj turned with deadly slowness to look at her, his expression equal parts irritation and sarcasm. He pointed a finger in her face. "Don't test me, woman."
Reno started hustling him out the door. "Hey, hey!" Kadaj protested. "I said it with a smile-- said it with a smile on my face!"
"I don't care if you said it with a pineapple up your a**! Out you go, yo!" He slammed the door on him.
Kadaj stood there blankly and stared at the door for a moment. "You're welcome," he called flatly.
He spun on his heel and left. No good deed goes unpunished. Sigh. What a day. I'm going back to my room for some actual SLEEP, d**n it. No guard duty for me tonight.

Reno sat down on the bed and took down another gulp of booze, shaking his head. "Yeah, I remember you mentioning a brother." He stared at the kid wearily. "So what are we gonna do with him? I mean, with half the police of the planet after us and all, and we stop to adopt long-lost relatives... OK, so ten out of ten for style, but minus a few for good thinking."

Nikky laughed and could barely stay quiet as she watched the two. She shook her head and finished the last laugh before sighing. "He really was smiling babe..." She grinned at him before moving over and sitting next to him on the bed.
Nikky sighed, thinking this over. She watched her little brother sleep soundly, unaffected by the earlier noise. We can't just leave him... I won't do that again. But it would be risky keeping him with us... She noticed the gun holstered to his hip, it had been hidden by his shirt. She grinned. "We should keep him." She quickly added more to explain. "He isn't as wimpy as he looks... I raised him for g*ds sake. Give him some time to eat and get used to us... then if he ends up not up to it, then we'll send him somewhere." She added the last sadly.
"I just don't want to lose him again, Reno...." She leaned her head on his shoulder, her eyes closed as she tried to think of any other way....

Reno nodded slowly and put an arm around her shoulders. "I understand, baby... I understand." So it's back to Frustration Land. Oh, well... It was good while it lasted. "So we'll keep him. You know I like kids, anyway." He snuggled her back comfotingly. "Man... what are the odds... I mean, this is about as likely as... as... OK, never mind, most of the unlikely stuff I can think of has happened already."

Kadaj got back to the hotel room... and realized he'd forgotten his key. "Oh, h**l..." He started banging on the door. "Hey! Open up!"
Loz merely grunted as he continued watching TV, not even noticing.

She snuggled him and smiled. "I love you Reno... and I promise he won't cause too much trouble. He might even help us out somehow... he was always a quick thinker and good with computers and math...."
Lekki stirred and curled up, snuggling in his body heat and the comforting couch....

Kamen jumped away. "Ha!" He reached for his sword before realizing it was a dream. He scowled before looking over at the door. "The h*ll...?? Kadaj?" He got up slowly, yawning as he walked over and opened the door. "You locked yourself out?" He asked sleepily, moving out of the way to let him in...

Kadaj didn't have the energy to explain. "Kind of." He yawned. "Your pal from the fort is staying with the lovebirds tonight." He collapsed onto the bed. "You have one more sentence before absolute silence is enforced tonight. Make it good."

Reno gave Nikky an amused look. "Maybe he can do my taxes for me." He kissed her cheek and got one of the blankets off the bed.

Kamen yawned and shook his head. "Then the siblings have reunited.... good, I wasn't up to the task." He curled back up in the chair. "Sentence, done. Night." He grinned a bit at his three sentences before falling back asleep.

"Pay? Aw, come on..." Reno mock-whined. "He's gonna be my brother-in-law by next tax season anyway." He laid the cover over the kid. "OK, so he oughta be good for the rest of the night..." He gave over the booze to Nikky and grabbed the remote control. "Looks like it's movie time after all," he sighed resignedly.

Kadaj looked back tiredly at the kid. So you knew Lekki was her brother? Never mind... I'll ask in the morning. He turned over and was out like a light before he could take his next breath.

Nikky laughed softly and watched him. "He was raised by me, remember? I hate doing things just outta charity... there always has to be something in it for me. Whether its a new friend, or respect, or happiness... sometimes money works." She shrugged a bit before taking the booze and grinning. "Look at this as practice for later, baby..." She shook her head and laughed again.
Lekki stirred and made a little mewling noise, staying fast asleep.

Kamen was too tired to evven think things over in his sleep like he usually does. He gave up and opted for dreaming instead.

Reno gave her a raised eyebrow, still clicking the remote button. "Practice for wha--?" It suddenly hit him, much like a well-placed aluminium bat hits a baseball, or the way a well-aimed shotgun shell hits a pumpkin. "Oh, I dunno about THAT, Nikky... I mean, I like kids... but I mostly like other people's kids, you know what I'm saying?" He smiled nervously. "I mean, ain't it a little soon to be thinking about that anyhow?"

Nikky couldn't stop herself from laughing, finding his reaction hysterical. "Oh babe... I didn't mean anytime soon." She shook her head, still laughing. "I'm not ready for kids anytime soon..."
She grinned at him. "Every woman thinks about having kids, Reno. Its just something we do. And yeah it may be soon, but it doesn't hurt to think about it." She giggled. "Besides, that face was priceless!"

Reno smiled back weakly. "Right." His embarrassment at the moment was virtually beyond all metaphysical bounds. He grasped at straws for a way to distract his fiancee... "Ummm, so... what kind of kid would you prefer? Short kid, sissy kid, kid who climbs on rocks?"

Nikky laughed softly, smiling. "Not a wimpy kid... can't stand em when they're whiny. Most likely a tough kid that respects people but doesn't give in too easily." She thought about it, watching her little brother sleep soundly. "Other then that I don't really care... obviously not a dumb kid." She laughed a bit.

Reno grinned. "Well, between the two of us, I doubt the kid will have any genetic tendency towards being wimpy OR dumb," he assured her. "I mean, we're both reasonably sharp, all things considered. And far as I know, we aren't exactly chickens, either. The respect is the only part I worry about... I have a minor deficiency as far as respect genes go."
