nikky sat in the ship, so wishing that she had gone... she sighed and started tossing her knife up and down. she caught it with a swift hand and a loose wrist, it barely stayed in her hand for how fast it was moving.
kamen had fallen asleep next to nikky. he slept silently but lightly, nikky was tempted to poke him. his head swam with unpleasant and interesting thoughts. subconsciously he picked up on conversations and thoughts, piecing them together....

Joey smirked defiantly. "I'm sick of hanging around waiting for things to happen. I say we take the fight to them."
Reno grinned. Definitely my kid.
Annie shook her head. "No chance... Jared's right. They have too much advantage at the mines... we have to fortify a position and lay plans."
Joey chafed at this. "Geez, you and your plans, yo! Can't we play it by ear for once?"
"Not with so much on the line," Jared decided. "Annie's got a point. So where do we go?"
"Let's get back to the ship first," Ami suggested. "We'll need Kamen to shield us from eavesdroppers. So where'd you park it, Reno?"
He headed out for the ship. "Little ways over here... 'cept... oh, c**p..." He remembered they had left the invisiblity shields on and he now had no idea where to find it. He grinned sheepishly. "Uh... Nikky? A little help here?"
Rude remembered where it was, but he was having too much fun watching this.

nikky heard reno and laughed. ''i'm marrying a moron....'' she got up and switched the invisibilty off before going back and opening the hatch. she grinned and held out her hand. ''that'll be ten bucks....'' she stepped back. ''naw.... just kiddin with you guys.'' she looked at them as they walked in. ''where too now??''
kamen stirred but still slept.... eventhough he had a feeling that he was going to be needed.

"Good question." Jared looked around and located Kamen. "Hey, wake up. We need a hand here." He poked him gently. "Hello...?"
His stomach turned as he felt old presences awakening... the distances between himself and them were not enough to shield him from their evil... he shuddered. We have to hurry.
He turned to the others. "Where is a good place to keep out intruders? We're talking a clone army here, plus the General and the Calamity... Everybody think. But no suggestions until Kamen wakes up."
The brothers got their brains in gear. "They'll find us no matter where we go... it's only a matter of structural security. We tried the fort, but if Kamen could slip in there unnoticed, anyone could... no offense."
Reno turned to Nikky. "I know of a few places we might hole out... but most of them are old Shinra safe houses. I don't know if they'll be guarded or not. Any ideas?"

kamen groaned slightly but reluctently woke up. he had heard his name a few times as he sat up. ''wha??'' he rubbed his eyes before looking around. he frowned slightly. ''it took a lot for me to get in there...'' he argued before giving up. he stood. ''so....'' he looked about, getting the feeling that he missed a lot.
nikky looked to reno and shook her head.... before blinking. ''wait.... no. that wouldn't work. there are too many of us...'' she was thinking about some of her 'friends' in hiding.... her many hiding places....

"Well, could we afford to split up? That might be safer anyway-- they wouldn't find us all at once..." Reno mused.
"If we divide, they conquer," Jared disagreed. "It'll take all of us working together just to survive. Kamen, set up a mental shield... we need to keep out any intruders, and Joey isn't very good at those yet." He could already feel Jenova probing his mind... he shoved her away.
Joey was about to protest, but she knew Jared was right. She sighed and shrugged.
Kadaj was still thinking... "Maybe some of the old labs, under the ruins of Midgar... That wouldn't be too hard to fortify..."
Jared shook his head. "We tried that in the future. They already know all the weak points of that structure. Now wait for Kamen to be set before you think of anything else. Clear your heads!"
Reno did, as did Ami and all the others. He eyed his daughters, still unable to believe in their presence... but finding himself more and more able to accept the idea... and more and more determined to keep them safe.

kamen nodded and nikky kept silent.
kamen forced everything out and then set up the strongest barriers he could. he checked and rechecked for weak points before opening his eyes and nodding. ''okay.... we're safe as long as i can hold it. this is more than i usually put up... but i figured we need it.'' he flashed a slightly grim smile.
nikky thought about it. the only places she knew were either too far and too out in the open or too close and too small... she sighed.

Jared gazed out the viewport as he considered possibilities... and he found himself staring out at Mt. Nibel. "The caves at the mountain! That's it!"
Ami seemed slightly startled by that idea. "I thought the place was crawling with monsters!"
"Monsters are nothing," Jared insisted, "not compared to clones. Let's grab what weapons and supplies we can and get ready to move out."
Ami gave Squall a look. That's where we met... and we almost got ourselves killed there. She sighed. "Well, let's hope the two of us have better luck over there this time." She smiled and kissed him. "But then, I found you there... what better luck could I have than that?" She pulled her to him and engaged him in a passionate kiss.
Joey rolled her eyes and gagged. Grown-ups. You can't do a thing with them.

kamen rolled his eyes. yeah.... either that or crawl in a hole. ew... i never got all that kissing stuff. he made a face before shaking his head silently.

Jared dug into the cargo crates-- he found some guns in there, including the sniper rifles Kidd and Kamryn had left. He also assembled some other supplies... some food and water from the dispensary, Ami's bag of clothes and first aid amenities, the weapons and clothes salvaged from the fort, some of the spare parts and sheet metal from the ship's repair supply box, a power generator, Kamryn's materia pouch, the com-links from Ami and Squall, and some other miscellaneous items. He turned to Annie. "Well, shall we?"
She nodded, compacting the massive amount of supplies into a small, more manageable tract of antimatter contained by a magnetic field. "Let's move out... I don't want to wear down carrying all this stuff too soon."
She headed out for the exit hatch. Reno, his EMR in hand, was close behind, with the fully armed brothers a close second.
Jared dropped back towards Kamen. "How much longer can you keep the shield up? I want us to stay unnoticed by Jenova as long as we can." He watched as the party filed out one by one... except for Ami and Squall, who were completely oblivious by now. He sighed. I'll talk to them later.

nikky followed reno, stuff with her.
kamen grinned slightly. ''as long as my energy doesn't go anywhere else...and i don't waste it fighting or running.... about four hours, with it being so strong i'll either have to drop it or lessen it slightly after that....'' he looked over at him. ''does that work for you?? i have a feeling experimenting is out of the question....''

"Four hours ought to be enough... it'll at least give us a head start." He stared ruefully up the mountain. "It'll take us about half an hour to get up the slope to the caves... after that, we get to work clearing the place out-- and setting up base." Hopefully those caverns are big enough that we can dig ourselves in a ways... set up the security systems I have in mind...
Ami pulled away from the kiss, grinning sappishly. Jared could barely believe all that he was seeing... his dour, serious old aunt as a young, lovesick teenager. It was almost frightening to see the way she had changed... "Aunt A? We'll need you to bring your cycle."
She nodded complacently, still off in her own little world. Jared shrugged. Right now she's a year younger than me, after all.
She got it out of the cargo bay and started wheeling it down the ramp. Jared reset the invisibility shield and, as the others vacated the ship, he swung the exit hatch closed.
About half an hour later...
