Sephiroth grabbed Jared roughly by the collar of his shirt and lifted him up off the ground, looking up at him. Tseng racked the hammer back on his rifle and aimed at Sephiroth's head.
"Let him go right now or your new life will be cut short REAL friggin quick!" He ordered.
Sephiroth ignored him and glared up at Jared, his eyes burning. "Do you think the concept of death scares me? I have died more times than most people have ever concieved..." He said, bringing him close to his face. "Do not assume for a moment that your petty threats matter to me any more than an ant crawling through the grass as I walk on it... I could kill you, her and the puppet any time I wish it... However, your still of use..." He said, dropping him and turning to Tseng. "You, puppet, I require my personal effects."
Tseng gritted his teeth and lowered his gun. "Jared, get away from him." He said, not taking his eyes off Sephiroth for even a second. "And I'm not your damned errand boy." He added.

Jared stood and brushed himself off, deliberately taking his time. He backed away, towards Hope, glaring at Sephiroth. This isn't over, uncle. You SAY you're not scared of death... so, why do you fight so hard to stay alive when you're in danger?
He picked up the baby. "The Patrans arrived here aboard a craft of some kind. If we find it, their base and supplies are gone. And there's something else... if we find the ship, we could find their cache of memetic toxin, their main advantage. But I..." Jared smirked. "I'm of the wrong breed to scent it. I know the HE doesn't scare you... but after the Patrans are gone, I might decide hand the suppressant over, just to say thank you."
The baby kept making unhappy noises... but they didn't sound like frightened cries or whimpers.
They almost sounded like growls.

Sephiroth smirked and shook his head, then headed over to Hope slowly, crouching animalisticly in front of her and tilting his head to the side. "Nothing has changed much I see..." He said, chuckling. "How long have I been out Fruxas?" He said, deliberately using his other name and not taking his gaze off the child.

Jared thought that over, letting the misnomer pass. "It's not daylight savings yet, is it?" He shot a grin at Tseng to indicate a joke. "Hmm... in that case... just about twenty-four hours, actually." His gaze sharpened somewhat as he tightened his grip on the baby. "We had some visitors right before you were trapped. Most of the witnesses don't seem able to remember them."
Maybe... because he was killed before the chain of events was broken, he might still remember...
The baby did not take her eyes off Sephiroth. Strangely, she stiffened at the sight of him, but never cried or flinched... almost as if she was disgusted by him...

Sephiroth knew exactly how the child felt towards him... and would have found it funny if he indulged in such emotions. Sephiroth was intrigued by the baby, so he took it upon himself to ignore Fruxas. "You dont like me do you?" He asked the child. "In fact... You despise me... I bet you wish your motor functions were operating correctly so you could slap me across the face. Well I want you to know something... I dont like you either, and I like your brother even less, but I will defend this family, so you had better get used to respecting me." He finished, poking her in the nose before standing up and going over to Tseng, getting right in his face. "Now... about my effects... Puppet."

The baby's face screwed up and turned red as she squawked her anger. With Amnesty gone for now, she was the Jenovan Larval Queen, and everything that implied.
Thus, her uncle's attitude towards his duty irritated her sorely. Respect for this irreverent creature was probably the farthest thing from her mind at the moment.
Little did she realize it was for similar reasons the Patrans had been so despised by the other Houses. They paid no deference or respect to tradition-- each one only scrabbled for its own well-being, even betraying family in favor of power and status.
The newborn was already learning the righteous indignation which had, in her grandmother's heart, soured over time to become lethal hatred.
Jared stepped forward. "No call to get impatient-- not yet, anyway. Your first dose needn't be administered for the next two hours and thirty minutes, at least."
He turned to Tseng. "He will need a weapon." I don't like the idea of arming him, either. But how else can we expect him to fight for us?

Tseng looked at Jared a moment, then at Sephiroth, who rose to a standing position and looked at him, cracking a dark smirk. Tseng shook his head and pointed to the stone. "Its still in there..." He said reluctantly.
Sephiroth turned and slowly made his way to the stone, running his hands along it briefly. "Such a surreal feeling... I've never seen my own corpse before this time..." He said, more to himself than anyone else. Suddenly, he punched right into the stone, going elbow-deep. He yanked his fist back out, holding something now...
In his grip was the hilt of his broken sword... and a chunk of his petrified ribcage as well. Sephiroth tossed aside the stone pieces attached to the handle and held the petrified weapon in front of him. His eyes glowed silver and the hilt suddenly shattered off it's stone exterior, the hilt turning to its previous shiny black finish and the blade suddenly popping out and extending to its massively long length.
The abombination stood there a moment, gazing at the blade that had made him complete once more... "Excellent... Now let us go shed some blood... Patran or otherwise." He said with a grin.

Jared's blood ran cold at the sight of that obscenely long blade, but he didn't dare flinch. Even the baby's growls were silenced.
He began making his way to the mouth of the cave and held up his hand to feel the direction of the wind. "Coming in from the east..." He made another effort at sniffing out the ship and was unsuccessful.
Ancestral memories told the boy that all Seraph ships had a peculiar feature, once upon a time, which allowed them to be tracked by their owners-- they released a harmless, colorless gas which could be scented for miles, but only by Seraphs. Each one had a different scent to it, but any one could be smelled by any Seraph. This trait was often complained against by those who were allergically sensitive, and might have been outlawed had the planet survived long enough.
Unfortunately, the child was too dilute to pick up the scent-- the human blood was too strong in him. He knew that even Sephiroth was not full Seraph... but he hoped that when the wind blew in the right direction, he might be able to detect the Patran craft. "Do you smell anything?"

Sephiroth said nothing at first, he just closed his eyes and inhaled deeply. After a moment, he opened his eyes and pointed to the south east.
"I have a definite signature coming from that direction, now lets get moving... I'm just itching to shed some Patran blood..." He said with a sick small grin. He'd been dreaming of killing these kind of scum for ages... and now he would get his chance, not only to kill them, but to protect Mother's family line in the process.

Jared smiled. This is good. Hopefully I'll have this... this toxin out of my blood soon... and when it's gone... then I'll decide where to go from there. But one thing is for sure... wherever I go, it will be somewhere far, far from wherever he does.
Jared went back to Tseng, eager to be underway... almost to the point that he actually sounded like a little boy for once. He tugged on his guardian's hand. "Come on, let's go."
Suddenly he wavered... "Oh, great." He gave over the baby and sat on the cave floor. He shook his head to clear it, but he could feel another spike in the toxin's effect algorithm coming on, and his mind started going fuzzy. This is the worst possible timing.

Sephiroth turned quickly to face Jared.
"They didnt..." He started, moving to his "nephew" and placing a hand on his forehead. He then sneered and his grip tightened on his sword. "Using memetic toxin is absolutely unacceptable and for this alone they'll suffer until the absolute last nerve ending in their bodies die." He said darkly.
------------
Tseng just took Jared by the hand and led him to the truck. "Yeah well we appreciate your sudden burst of conscience, but I'm really not interested, just do your thing."

Jared got clumsily to his feet and stumbled along behind his guardian, lost in his own ever-darkening world... he had not even felt or seen his uncle's reaction... All he could think of was, Who'll protect them from him now?
He started probing outward, trying to find the Seraphs before he went dark, to make sure they wouldn't stumble on them while at the ship... he found one of them and observed quietly... "Cloud?" Jared muttered, a little puzzled.
****
The baby felt the swell of aggression from the one and the decline in activity from the other, and between the two was rather irritated. She fussed disconsolately in Tseng's arm, glaring at anyone she happened to be in eyeshot of (despite the fact that her eyes had not developed past the point that she saw everything upside down).

Sephiroth twitched slightly at the mention of that name. "Where IS our old friend Cloud?"
-------------
Tseng ignored him and strapped Jared into the passenger seat, then hooked the baby into the seat next to him, looking at her. "Hey, dont let him get to you kid. and your brother is going to be fine, I promise."

Jared shook his head rapidly, trying his hardest to clear it. "G**, that thing is stupid... stupidest dumb stupid thing I was ever in the mind of..." He was unaware of the fact that he was rambling nonsense. "The stupid dumb thing was fighting with Cloud. In Midgar. The dumb stupid thing had too much poison. Yeah. His sister makes him carry it for her. He had a big, big gun... Cloud's got it now. Maybe they'll blow each other up. That would make me happy."
The baby whimpered in frustration. Her brother was going down AGAIN... She looked pointedly at Tseng and sqawked, as if to say, "I think someone spoke too soon."

Sephiroth shoved past Tseng and grabbed Jared by the jaw, forcing him to look at him. "Focus boy... Where is the battle taking place?"
