Reno nodded curtly. "Well, good."
He sat back and rubbed his temples... I probably lost another year or two for that stunt... He sat back up and looked Kamen in the eyes. "Look, kid... what exactly is your story, anyway? How the h**l did you wind up in this mess? You and me, we been at each other's throats from minute one, but I just put my neck on the line for you, so you owe me that much of an explanation, all right?" He waited impatiently for an answer. He can look as pale and shaken up as he wants... I'm trying to save his sorry a**, and I'm tired of working blind.

kamen took a deep breath and closed his eyes. he searched and drew up as much courage as possible before looking back at reno. he still looked like a deer caught in headlights.
''i suppose you wish for me to start at the begining.... so that is where i will begin.'' he shifted uncomfortably and tried to calm his uneasy nerves and wits.
''most of this all started after my parents died. i was orphaned and left on the streets. i met a man, by the name of Vikktor. he told me that if i did what i was told he would take care of me.... now after living all alone, starved and cold, you don't think about all of the consequences. so i took his offer. after awhile of him just being a father figure he told me why he needed me....'' he closed his eyes and tried to think of words to explain. ''its hard... to really explain what he had told me. most of it i still do not remember. but next thing i know i'm signing a contract in my blood and doing all of these things a could not control.... he took control a few years ago. i've been reborn as his slave and until i can break this bond i will forever be trapped in this mess....'' he dropped his head. ''i only want to be free of this.... i never meant to hurt anybody. least of all nikky. she was the only one who looked at me and treated me as a person....'' he sighed. ''i don't even remember much of my life before all of this... then again i wasn't very old....'' he stared at his frail hands in hopes of something he could not grasp. he was slightly embarrassed to admit that he wasn't as old as he looked....

Rufus shook his head.
"So if you care for nothing, then you wouldnt be interested in my plan to help you achieve what your mother had intended..." He said, looking away from her.

Xima narrowed her eyes and turned Rufus' head to look at her. I won't spare you from my gaze, Shinra. "I most certainly would not... I don't need your help... What I need from you, I will take." She kissed him again, pulling his face to hers and moving her lips on his ravenously. She removed herself from his mouth, breathing hard. "Stop denying yourself, Rufus... succumb to my poison... and I will reward you with a painless death." She pulled herself around to fully face him, dragging him into another lustful, fatal kiss... Even here, in this arena, we strive against one another. It is another battlefield for us... and I will not stop at anything less than surrender.

Rufus pulled back from her kiss, absolutely refusing to succumb to her.
"What you've failed to realize is that I could have a painless death at any time I want to... If it comes down to me having a choice between surrendering to you and dying and dying MY way... Which do you think I'll pick?"

Reno glanced at Nikky. "Yeah, she has a gift for that." He dragged a hand through his hair. "OK, kid, so you got a good sob story. But how's that gonna help us kick this creep's a**? Whether I give a d**n about you is a non-issue... this guy is just starting to really p**s me off." He tried to deny it, but deep down he was starting to feel bad for the kid...

kamen looked up at him, mildly and momentarily shocked. ''um... i'm not sure.'' he licked his dry lips and thought of any weaknesses he had seen. ''i'm still not even sure why he wants me back so bad... he always acted as though he despised me. he even has a son of his own....'' he sighed deeply. ''the only way i could think of would be to see him in person.... but...'' he trailed off, staring at his hands. he feared the wrath of his master face to face... i don't want to die.... he mouthed the words slightly and sighed.

She glared at him. "What the h**l are you talking about?" Xima hissed. "Your weapons are gone, your lackeys are comatose... I see absolutely no reason why I can't do absolutely ANYTHING I want with you." She dug her fingernails into his arm, drawing blood, just to illustrate the point.

He cringed slightly, then held his hands up and clenched there was a metal device with a blinking red light.
"It is wired by remote into my brain, which in turn is wired into the self-destruct mechanism for this building... If I release this trigger or if my life function ceases for ANY reason... Boom... Now... I'm not totally unreasonable though... If I live through this, you do too."

Reno saw Kamen's mouth moving, and he didn't need to be any expert in nonverbal communications to know what he was saying. His gaze dropped slightly. Neither do I... but it seems neither of us are gonna get what we want without a fight. He broadcasted this thought into Kamen's mind. I swear I'll kill you if you tell Nikky... but I'm dying, Kamen. It's slow, but it's happening. I'm dying along with this planet. He made eye contact. We got to stop it. I know you got power over life force energy... if you can keep me alive long enough to stop this Aztar guy... I'll watch your back long enough to stop the Puppetmaster. Deal?
He glanced at Nikky before sticking his hand out for a shake, hoping she'd shrug it off. I won't live without her... on either side of the divide, Kamen. If you can keep me with her long enough, I swear I'll break this guy's hold on you.

kamen looked over and stared at him an horror and disbelef. he frowned slightly, part of his not wanting to trust reno. but he softened the look understanding where he was comming from. he nodded and shook his hand, looking back at him. i will do all that i can reno.... and thank you. it means a lot to me... that you would actually help. i don't know how long i will be able to do anything... but i will try. i promise we have a deal....it wouldn't be fair if i just let you die.... even if you hate me. a faint, ironic smile flashed crossed his face before looking sad again. but please, can we at least try and be friends? he let go of his hand, his voice and expression a desperate plea. thats all i've been trying to do since i came back... i've never had real friends.
nikky glanced over but shrugged and went back to eating. she grinned to herself. its good to see them getting along....

Xima looked at the trigger. Then she looked back at Rufus.
A smile spread across her face. "You really are an interesting human being." She crossed her arms. "Sooner blow yourself apart than admit your own weaknesses, eh?" She laughed coldly. "I suppose, given your position, that is none too impractical a notion." She tilted her head back slightly, her eyes filled with aloofness, superiority... and grudging respect. "I see... so if you live through this, that is of what profit to me?" She leaned forward slightly. "If you survive, I will be hunted down and killed after I leave, and our son along with me... so why should I be frightened of your little bomb? At least my son would survive the blast, if he has gotten far away enough."
She was beginning to be intrigued... I knew there was a reason I wanted you to father my children.

Reno leaned back in his seat and looked away. You'd have to talk to Ami about that. She's the one who believes in redemption. He looked Kamen in the eye again. We're working together, all right? We got a truce. But that does not make us partners... and is sure as h**l does not make us friends.
He stood up and walked off. Now if you'll excuse me, I gotta cut my fingernails now... this aging thing is gonna turn me into a Freddy Krueger lookalike. He glanced at the bathroom mirror as he passed by... Yeah, my hair's getting longer, too...
