Amnesty stared at the crater as the Ragnorak settled down, a cold fire in her eyes. My kind on this planet began here. It will end here, too, if I have anything to say about it.
When the ship touched down, she stood again and leaned on Squall's shoulder. "This is gonna be tough." She kissed his cheek lovingly. "You ready, baby?"

She looks out into the darkness, a funny, ironic smile on her face. "There is no ready. It's called destiny... you just do it, ready or not." She squeezed him and regarded the lurking monument placidly. I'm not gonna let this scare me anymore. As long as I have the people I love... there's nothing to be afraid of.
"Those cliffs leading into the crater are pretty steep..." Ami mused. "Last time anyone went in there besides Rufus, they used a helicopter, but that's sort of outside our resources..." She thought it over. "We might be able to make it in on Gunmetal, but we'll need more than three people inside." She continued to lean on Squall. "Any thoughts?" My friend, my confederate, my lover. I'd do anything for you.

Reno pulled himself together. OK, here's the plan. You tell Nikky something's up with you... but downplay it much as possible, don't let her know you might be in danger. She can take that much... just pray she doesn't pry into it. He took a deep breath and went into the cabin where he'd left her. "Hey... Nikky? We're here," he began hesitantly.
Rude watched quietly. He's walking on thin ice here... I'd better keep an eye on him. He looked towards the exit hatch. Just how does AMi plan on getting us all into the Crater, anyway? Last time I was there, there wasn't any kind of facility there at all... so whatever we're up against, it has to be made of resources easily airlifted in from somewhere else.

Squall walked towards the window and looked down into the crater, the endless black below leering up at him. How long is the tow cable on this thing? Squall stood for another moment, looking down into the darkness, then turned and walked to the control panel, " This ship was used to move Adels space prison. The cable they used to tow her should get us at good way in..." How deep is this thing?... " Hope none of the others are afraid of heights....... or the dark."

Ami nodded. "Sounds like a plan..." Afraid of heights? I doubt it. Dimitri's bounty hunter, Reno's a copter pilot, Rude... sheez, I can't think of a thing he IS scared of. She peered into the dark. Who the h**k is Adel... and why does her name sound so familiar? She headed towards the c0ckpit door to collect the things she would need while inside the Crater, but she paused, her fingers on the door handle. "The name Adel is ringing a bell with me..." She turned back to Squall, a slightly puzzled look on her face. "Should it?" She had a creeping feeling that this had something to do with Squall's past... the past he never talked about.

Rude had left Reno to his own devices and was digging into the cargo bins for all the weapons he could find, especially explosives. He strapped on the Sacrifice as an idea came to him... An intriguing thought, but with us teetering on the edge of the crater, it may have to wait. He kept searching for more grenades...

*straightens up and looks at her* How would you know the name? Shes from my planet?... Squall stood looking at her quizically, I havent told you about her have I? * Squall shook his head* " I dont know..." * scratches head* " I dont think I ever mentioned her to you?" ... I got no idea?

Amnesty thought that over... she thought she'd heard the name before, but only in her dreams. It wasn't anything she'd thought was real before...
The memory of the dream was very hazy now... it had been nearly a year ago. Someone shouting, and that name was the only distinct word... Someone fighting someone else, surrounded by other hostile creatures... a sudden death, and a scream of pain...
The Banished One?
Ami blinked. "I think I dreamed of her once... right before my Geostigma was cured. I was a little incoherent at the end-- I was delirious, they thought I wasn't going to make it. I kept seeing all these bizarre visions... most of them make sense now, because they came from Jenova... but some of them I still don't understand." She looked out and up to the sky. "You say she's from your world... and you know, I think you may just have something there... because I think maybe that vision didn't come from this world at all."

... You seen a lot of crazy crap in your visions havent you? * smiles* " I guess its possible?" Squall stood silently for a moment, reminisicing of memorys that felt like lifetimes ago. " Adel... She was a sorceress." * pauses, thinking how best to tell her briefly what had happened* " Adel was the ruler of a giant technological city named Esthar..." Whyd she see her vision so recently then? ... Ooh of course! * clears throat* " Anyway... Man this is tough to explain!... She was overthrown by my a resistance faction led by my father about 15 years ago. The imprisoned her in some kind of magic barrier and flew her into space..." Squall shook his head suddenly, " sorry you probably arent interested." Squall knew she was, but he felt uncomfortable talking about things from his past... Its not even my past?!

She glanced at him. "I might be..." This sounding more and more familiar all the time. She tilted her head slightly. "I'm beginning to think, maybe the way we met wasn't such an accident after all."
Fate chooses strange players to carry out its bidding... and it may be that we were destined to perform a duet...
She kept thinking of the dream, trying to pull more images from it... a girl with black hair, being overrun by attackers... fighting bravely to keep them back, but there were just too many...
Ami fingered her own hair, black as midnight. She gazed into Squall's eyes... There's more to this that he's afraid of telling me... "Squall, what brought you to this planet?" It occurred to her she had never asked before.

What are you thinking? Squall looked into Amis eyes, not sure wether he wanted to continue or not. Why did I come here?... I dont know... Squall looked down at the ground, feeling more and more unhappy, his inner child inside him trying to curl up into a ball and shut everything out... " I ... I ran away..." Squall could feel his defences building up, he didnt want to talk any more. " I ... I Think thats all I can think of..." Squall turned and started to lower the tow cable on the ragnorak

Ami watched him, and she knew he was lying... but she didn't want to push too hard, she could see this was hurting him...
She stood behind him and placed a hand on his shoulder gently, her eyes grave. "It's all right... you don't have to tell me..." She put her arm around his shoulders and leaned on him, her other hand resting on his arm. "I just thought... you might want someone to..." She trailed off, unsure of her words. She closed her eyes and leaned her head on him. "I thought maybe you wouldn't want to carry the pain alone anymore."
She fell silent for a moment. She took a deep breath. "Squall, I want to help you... the way you helped me. I never would have healed if it hadn't been for you." She held him closer. "But if you're not ready... I understand." She stayed there, feeling his pain spill over into her heart, waiting for the silence to end.

* hangs head and sighs* " I... " I dont want to relive these memories... I just want to forget them... Squall replayed the images hed seen throughout his years as a seeD. Defeating the sorceresses, the battle against Adel... Just the tip of the iceberg. Even if I wanted to theres too much to tell... I still cant make sense of it all... Squall turned round and hugged Ami back... " Ill answer any questions you have if you want..." ... Will i be able to?

She held him close, cradling his head with her hand. It's so deep, I can almost cry for him... how can he stand holding all this pain alone? "Just tell me why you ran away. That's the only answer I need."
She remembered one more image she'd seen before the dream fizzled out, before she had woken up so long ago, screaming in terror and pain, barely even connected with the real world anymore, her sores oozing... they'd had to sedate her to make her fall asleep again...
The silhouette of a man kneeling beside the girl's corpse, weeping as if someone had torn out his heart and ground it to pieces before his eyes... begging her not to leave him, but she was already gone... the silhouette of the man she now knew she was holding in her arms.
Her eyes widened and her throat constricted. Oh, my G**... The truth was beginning to dawn on her, and she was praying to G** she was wrong...
