As Vi already knows, I am not a poet. I just happen to be good at poetry. There's a difference.
This poem is based on a pretty simple principle: Everybody has a victory song. Everyone gets a chance to win at least once-- sure, folks lose more often than they win, but even the unluckiest sad sack in the world has had the opportunity to conquer his fears and reach a seemingly impossible goal-- even if it's one as simple as being first in line at the cafeteria, or a lottery that only awards five bucks. The laws of statistics and chance, combined with the benevolence of most recognized cosmic entities, entitle every human being to a victory song.
This one is Ami's.
I thought... I needed answers. I discovered... how to ask the right questions.
I thought... I needed vengeance. I discovered... how to achieve true justice.
I thought... I was searching for peace. I discovered... it was inside me all along.
I thought... I was an inhuman freak. I discovered... humanity has nothing to do with whose genes you were born with.
I thought... my destiny would shape me. I discovered... nothing in the past can steal my future.
I thought... I would never find even one true friend. I discovered... someone who loves me for who I am.
I thought... I needed the strength of my family. I discovered... the strength inside my own heart.

Thanks. I was having an access of "deep-ness" last night... figured I should channel it into something semi-constructive. (When I don't, I just get depressed.) Rather nice, it turned out.
