Ami grinned at Kamen. "What's the matter... is it my breath?" Got to help him unwind.

Reno gave Nikky one lingering kiss on the cheek before letting himself drift off.
Rude watched them. Maybe I'd better have a talk with Reno later, something along the lines of my discussion with Nikkole. After all, it takes two.

"Well, my village has no determinable coordinates and it's not on any map, but all we have to do is find the southernmost mountain range of Wutai, and I'll direct our landing from there. It's quite simple- we ride for a few hours, and when we get there, I just need to be present to land us."

kamen smiled and stiffled a small laugh. ''no.... i am just still getting used to being treated like this.'' he said quietly, looking back at her with an almost lost and searching look. he felt like an outcast and he wanted to get away but he was afraid of being caught. he swallowed at the thought of facing his master again.... he wanted to help then. to fit in...
nikky was out.

Lana had begun to think they would never see home again, especially after seven hours cramped into that little van. OK, well, the van wasn't little, but it felt little with nine people and a dog in it, especially with her elder sister snuggling against that ex-SeeD guy the whole way. It was hard for Lana to tell who was more unhappy with this development, her dad or her youngest brother. Both seemed thoroughly disgusted by the relatively tame displays of affection.
Ironic... she had wanted to live in the big city her whole life, but after she actually got there, it surprised her how mind-bogglingly dull it was. Day by day, it was just the same old thing-- same buildings, same roaring traffic, same bums on the street corners. Seeing the towering trees and steep mountainsides of her childhood home gave her greater relief than she had ever imagined could be possible.
They pulled up at the driveway, still littered by the remains of Tseng's bomb. The entire population of the vehicle spilled out of it as one, and again as one, they all lunged for the nearest bathroom.
The two water closets were nabbed first by Loz and Yazoo, who moved fastest. The others were forced to wait a while and whine about it with their legs crossed.
Ami edged over to her father. "The boys can't go around dressed like Hell's Angels forever. Besides, they'll start to stink."
"What's your point?"
"They'll need actual clothes, as in normal clothes, obviously."
He fixed her with a sharp look. "From where? Anything of theirs we couldn't give away, we burned, remember?"
Ami nodded bitterly. "How could I forget... public opinion demanded we do that."
"Why don't you just buy them some new clothes?" Stephen asked pointedly.
Ami glared. "You spent the entire drive up here talking to Yazoo about exactly why we can't afford that kind of thing."
"And it was this kind of situation that was precisely my point. You kids are dashing off to save the world, and using our family's entire savings to do it, while you cannot, in the meantime, even afford to clothe yourselves. I mean, honestly, Ami... How do you intend to help others when right now you are in a situation where you cannot even help yourselves?"
She turned away to glare at the floor instead. "This is bigger than us, Daddy. We can think about whether or not we stink a little later. If we don't do what we've been called to NOW, there won't be any more time to worry about making a living."
He leaned against the back of the couch and sighed. "What about the terrorism charges? All the false accusations made against you? You're a fugitive now, Ami. The world you want to save wants you dead."
Ami watched him gravely. "And this is any change from the status quo... how?" She shook her head solemnly. "All our lives, people have been after me and my brothers, Daddy. You took us off the street, saved us from spending all our lives under the shadow of being caught. But we've always been looking over our shoulders. Now... we just have to look a little bit harder. That's all."
The toilet flushed, and she sprang for it.
Stephen watched her slip in past her brother, nearly knocking him down. He kept finding himself glaring at Squall, but not knowing quite why... something about the way his daughter looked at him made him stiffen.

They unloaded the luggage, said the goodbyes. It was nothing fancy, nothing to cable the capital about. It was characterized unmistakeably with the earmarks of an event everyone knew could be occurring for the last time, but was desperately attempting to pretend they were taking for granted. There really was precious little time for sadness, for goodbyes, for all the doubts and fears.
Ami and her volunteers loaded into the van again and began making their way back out of town, carefully observing everything that flashed past the windows... not because they felt the need to watch out for danger, but because they wanted to capture and keep the memory of something they knew very well they might never see again.
Suddenly a flash of something amiss, out of place, caught Ami's eye... something in the forest, on a ridge just higher than the roof of the car... a rustle of movement and a hint of color... "What the h**k..."

Lutz grabbed Ami's shoulder. "I see it also...." he looked a Yazoo driving the van. "Yazoo! pull over something is out there!" Lutz turned his vision out towards the snowy forest. More evil grows...never a dull moment....

Yazoo braked carefully and pulled over, not a little concerned that the tires would lose traction on the icy road... de-icing in this rural community was all but nonexistent.
They stopped on the side of the road, on a perilously narrow shoulder...
Ami started climbing out. Yazoo stopped her. "Wait here," he instructed.
"No way..." she replied, but suddenly her expression changed. "No way am I getting out of this d**n car, it's freezing out there!"
Kadaj nodded approvingly. Emotional manipulation... a potent trick. He's wise to never overuse it, but this could be serious.
The brothers piled out, preparing their respective weapons...
Kadaj stared up into the trees as Yazoo reloaded his pistols and Loz charged up his pile bunker. Something up there felt seriously fractured... Looks like I get to do a little bit of quality killing today. They better put up a better fight than those parodies that called themselves clones...

Lutz dashed out of the Van leaving flaming paw prints behind him melting the snow and ice. he joined up with the three brothers and growled as his fist bursted into flames. "Any idea whats up there?"

Yazoo finished loading up and spun the guns in his hands, catching them in firing position and lining up the sights. He thought a practice shot might be a good idea, but he didn't want to risk provoking these things, whatever they were (at least, not until he knew what they were capable of).
Kadaj kept his narrowing eyes on the woods, which almost seemed to be closing in on them. "I've faced off against a lot of nasty sons of b*****s in my day, but I've never run into anything like... whatever the h**l is up there." More powerful? No. But more evil? Absolutely.
"So something IS definitely up there?" Loz inquired.
"Is your IQ about equal to the air temperature?" Yazoo replied dryly.
Loz blinked. "Uh..."
He aimed his pistols into the trees. "My point precisely." His voice took on a toxic edge... his entire attitude had become focused on imminent extinction.
Ami peered through the window, her muscles tense... "What the h**k am I doing in here?"
She started trying to climb out, but Yazoo took the remote keys out of his pocket and hit the lock every time she jiggled the handle. "Hey!" Ami complained.
He ignored her.
Just like old times, brothers... time to get heartless again.

Lutz grinned. Evil, well it may be time to give this evil a tease of might Aztar... he Looked up at the trees trying to see who or what was up there. "Evil you say! so evil if has to hide instead of play!" Lutz nugged the brothers. "Come on your guys give this fool a reason to come out!" he howled at the trees.

Give them a reason, huh?
I'll give them a d**n good reason, Kadaj thought with a smirk.
He turned to the others as his hand started to exhibit a faint silver flicker... "Ready?"
"When are we not?" Yazoo replied calmly.
Loz got into a defense stance. "This is where the fun begins."
Kadaj aimed his glowing arm at the forest...
Ami, still trapped in the car, groaned. "Aw, man... not the foliage..."
He sent a powerful energy blast into the trees, knocking several over and stripping the bark off a few more. A few unearthly howls of pain could be heard from the road, and the sound of tramping feet approaching.
Am's eyes widened. "Oh, geez..." She started yanking more urgently on the door, but her brother's stubborness ensured it wouldn't budge. She turned wearily back to Squall. "Guess you can tell why they get on my nerves sometimes."
They boys braced themselves. "I begin to fear we may have underestimated them," Yazoo remarked, his equilibrium still undisturbed.
Loz gave him a slightly troubled look. "That's bad, right?"
"Very," Kadaj answered. "But as personal favor... try not to wet yourself, OK?"
Loz bit his lip. "Umm... I'll try. But I make no promises."

Lutz dashed into the air throwing fire balls into the trees setting a few of them on fire. "Come out come out where ever you are!" He grinned and bursted his whole body into flames and began to search every tree. "Evil hides!"

Kadaj gave his oldest (surviving) brother a funny look. He better be joking. He decided to forget it and move forward into the woods... "Suppose we have to take the fight to them. Boy, do I hate cowards. Almost as bad as I hate liars."
"Hear, hear," Yazoo replied, keeping his pistols at ready, following him as they jumped to the top of the icy ridge.
Loz almost lost his balance on a patch of snow, but regained himself barely in time. The brothers fanned out into the clearing the energy and fire attacks had made, approaching the receding tree line.
Snow crunched under their feet in the ominous silence... even the birds had shut up.
The smell of smoke from Lutz's attack seemed to rouse the brothers' battle instincts. They remained tense, but battle-ready.
They moved beyond the remote's range as they ventured cautiously into the forest's edge, and Ami finally shoved the car door open. However, this action also proved futile... she couldn't gain traction on the frosted ridge, which was all but vertical. And unlike her brothers, she couldn't clear it in one jump. She slammed her fist into the dirt in frustration, cracking the ice.
Suddenly, Kadaj heard a branch just behind him crack.

Lutz landed swiftly by the brothers "Well what is going on here, I saw something I swear!" the snowy forest was quiet no sound could be heard, it felt creepy. a whisper could be heard right behind Yazoo but when he looked no one was in sight. Just then jumping down from the trees for the Dark Sarsha assassins, they through small daggers in the direction of the brothers. Lutz quickly dashed out and burns the daggers to crisp. "There they are!" The assassins all attacked at the same time giving the group an overwelming feeling. but still something there was something more here then just the Dark Sarsha.
