Vincent ushered Ami inside, gently taking the blindfold from her eyes.
Amnesty gasped at the figure she saw before her... frozen in a Mako crystal...
"Just like my dreams," she breathed.
Vincent turned to her. What do you mean by that?
The girl moved forward, towards the frozen figure.
A figure which bore a more than passing resemblance to her... her face bit longer, perhaps, but they still almost looked as if they could have been sisters... or...
Once again, Ami found tears welling in her eyes. A word formed on her lips, but did not make itself heard...
Mother...
Vincent turned away. Amnesty needed time to be alone... with her.
He exited the cave, waiting outside on the cliff that prefaced the nearly undetectable entrance. He peered up at the sky... Strange. I don't remember it being so overcast when we arrived.
Suddenly a chill wind blew... and he heard a faint metallic scraping...
His blood ran cold as he turned to face a familiar figure.

Sephiroth stalked towards Vincent, his sword out and ready to attack. He'd seen the footprints, he sensed her presense... and now there was Vincent, directly ahead of him.
"Greetings Vincent. Come to join in on the family reunion?"

Suddenly, Ami's presence seemed to fade, disappear... as if she had somehow just winked out of existence...
Vincent reached for his gun. Something about Sephiroth was... off... somehow. As if he had somehow aged, years beyond his maturity when they last saw him...
"Your guess is ironically accurate, Sephiroth." The barrels were aimed at the abomination's head within a split second. "This is the one place I will NOT suffer your presence. Especially now."

"I was hoping it would come to this... Lets finally answer the age-old question, who's your daddy?"
Quicker than Vincent could see (but slightly less quick than Sephiroth usually was) the abomination was upon him, swinging his blade right into Vincent's gun, knocking it aside and spinning to avoid the inevitable reaction shot, he then spun the sword around and went to stab him in the stomach.

Vincent leaped backwards, away from the length of that monstrous blade. He fired from mid-leap, blasting at the blade to knock it off-balance, giving him a few seconds' purchase for his landing.
He hit the ground in a sprint, blasting at the opening at Sephiroth's side he had cleared with his descending fire. As the Abomination brought his blade up to block, Vincent's weapon clashed against it, the two enemies pushing against each other with equal force.
"I won't see blood spilled here. Especially not yours or mine."

"Blood is meant to be spilt Vincent... Yours more than most." He practically spat. "I see no reason why I should not finish you right here."

"You wouldn't," Vincent all but hissed back. He suddenly threw all his force into pushing the Seraph back... He blasted fiercely, taking advantage of the Nightmare's lost balance.
You won't get past me. I won't let you find them.

Sephiroth was propelled backwards, he knew he didnt have time to recover and launch forward, so he simply latched onto Vincent's metal arm and yanked him back with him, flipping him right over as he fell backwards. Vincent was launched into the air and slammed hard to the ground behind the abomination. Sephiroth chuckled and jumped quickly back to his feet.

Vincent felt the impact of the rocky ground-- felt it in a profound way that can only be described as "Ouch". Even so, he wasted no time wallowing in his pain. He shot back to his feet and whirled on his adversary, an arc of tattered red, firing mercilessly.
The cave entrance was not more than thirty feet from the Nightmare's back. Vincent had no intention of allowing that gap to shrink.

Sephiroth rolled under the strafing fire from Vincent's weapon and leapt into the air, kicking his gun-hand aside and stabbing his blade straight down through Vincent's steel arm, slamming him to the ground, pinning him in place.

Vincent yanked at the sword stubbornly, even desperately... Blood pooled around the blade. There was still flesh encased within the alloy, flesh that was stinging mightily from the blow... But that pain paled beside the fact that unless Vincent wrenched that blade free in time, Ami and Lucrezia were vulnerable. He glared upwards at the person, the thing, that had come to represent the destruction of everything he loved.
"D**n you."

"You may be surprised... But your not the first person to say that." He said with a grin, twisting the sword so the metal bent and lodged it more firmly into his arm.

Vincent ground his teeth, supressing a wince, the cry of pain already dead in his throat. "To think I defended you, once."

"Yes well... We all make mistakes, dont we?"
With that, he stood, grabbing Vincent by the collar and yanking him upward, ripping the blade right up the middle of the arm almost six inches, grinning at the obvious pain Vincent was feeling.
