kamen shook stephens hand as firmly as he could and made eye contact for a second. he flashed a slight smile.
nikky got up and stumbled back, wincing and holding her still bleeding side. she smiled weakly at rude... the pain stung but wasn't as bad as how much her head still hurt.

Ami noticed Nikky's wound. She pulled gauze out of the first aid kit that she was still holding. "Here, hold still and let me look at that."
She began to bandage Nikky up. "This is one h**k of a puncture wound here... good thing it didn't hit any vital organs."
That was my mistake. Next time I don't intend to miss.
Ami almost dropped her gauze. "What the--"
Oh, yes. You thought it was all over, didn't you? Think again, you naive little vixen. All of you will be hearing from me again soon... and when you do, I'm bringing friends.
Ami's mouth set into a grim line. Someone like you doesn't even know what the word "friend" means. How did you escape, Jenova?
Jeno--? HA! You actually think I... HA HA HA! Oh, that's ironic!
"She called herself Xima," Reno corrected.
Oho, so now you're eavesdropping? Impressive... your ability to control your powers increases by the minute... but that only means I'll be returning all the sooner.
The dark presence faded...
Rude was nonplussed. "Who does?"
Reno didn't look quite so cheerfully mad as usual. "Ami's 'evil twin'."
Ami was taken aback. "Since when have I had--"
"Not literally!" He sighed. "Axel reconstituted your Jenova cells. Now we got a female version of Sephiroth on our backs... as if he wasn't effeminate enough already."
Ami paled. "This day just keeps getting better and better..." She mechanically continued dressing Nikky's wound.

nikky winced. ''its not that bad...'' she said as an automatic response.
she held her breath and tried not to look in pain.
kamen looked relieved to see them again. he looked to nikky and smiled, but his smile faded when he looked over at reno. he looked away and turned to leave....

Stephen nodded acknowledgement to Kamen. He noticed Amnesty's troubled expression as she finished working on Nikky... "Ami, what's wrong?"
Ami's head dropped. "He said the nightmare was only beginning... I should have known better than to think it was a bluff." She turned back to her father. "Not all my demons are dead yet. There's a part of me still out there that only wants to destroy."
Stephen didn't quite understand. "Well... isn't that all part pf what being a teenager is about?"
Ami smiled at him. "I'm speaking a bit more literally than that." She looked around. "But before I can track that last Remnant down... I have to find a different place for you and the others. Coming here was a mistake-- I can see that now and I'm not too ashamed to admit it."
Rude disagreed. "Any other place and Shinra might discover them..."
"I'd sooner drag them back to Rufus myself than leave them in this nutty place," she hissed back quietly. "I'm not leaving them in the dark here."
Rude remained as impassive as always. "So what's our next move?"
"We regroup and lay new plans," Ami said. "Beyond that, I don't have a clue."
Stephen watched his daughter, talking down this huge, silent man over twice her age. He shook his head in wonder. Ami, you are the seventh wonder of the world.

Ren noticed Kamen walking off. Hey, where do you think you're going? You heard the girl... we're regrouping. He stopped himself. Did I just... THINK that to him? He'd honestly thought he was speaking out loud until he finished his message...
He edged his way over to Nikky and took her hand, lacing his fingers with hers. The more I learn about this, the more creeped out I get.

kamen stopped slightly and glanced back at him before sighing and stopping. he didn't come back he just didn't go farther off. he was tempted to reply but stayed silent.
nikky smiled and leaned on him slightly.

"OK, we got to find the others in this dark... everybody, same drill as the fog bit. Stay together, call out for the others. When we're all together, we make a break for it back to the Ragnorak."
Ami led the group forward into the gloom, her arm still shimmering silver... She disliked the idea of running away, but didn't know of any alternatives. Hopefully, the dark will dissipate from this village when we leave it... If Lutz's account is correct, our presence is what's drawing it.
Ami took a look back to see how the others were doing... and noticed Nikky and Reno walking together, hand in hand. She shook her head, grinning. I've got to admit... I like him better as a hormone fiend than as a nihilist. Good to see him back to normal.

Reno kept his grip on Nikky's hand. "Once again, I come within a heartbeat of losing you, and we manage to survive." He kissed her hand. "I love you."

Reno nodded silently. Yeah, there is that. "The rest of me is right here, Nikky. And I'm not gonna leave you alone, no way."
He put an arm around her shoulders and pulled her to him in a half-embrace, snuggling up to her.

Ami peered through the blank devastation... "Kidd? Kamryn? Sunset? Is anyone there?"

Reno kissed Nikky's cheeck as Rude kept an eye peeled for the missing members of the party. His nightvision shades weren't detecting anyone...
Ami noticed Kamen's tense posture. "Hey, Kamen, chill," she requested. She performed a quick head count. Kamen, Nikky, Rude, Reno, Lutz... "We still have to find Kidd, Kamryn, Sunset, and Dimitri. Squall and Blood are back at the Ragnorak... one less thing to worry about."
She noticed Lana shivering. "Easy, Lana... I'll admit this is kinda weird, but it's just darkness. Darkness never hurt anybody."
Lana looked back at her and made a face. "It's not the dark that worries me... it's what's IN the dark."
"Lutz took care of the hell hounds. As long as we stick together, there's nothing to be scared of."
Unfortunately, Ami didn't realize she was dead wrong, and there WAS something in the dark for Lana to be scared of... the horde of Shinra soldiers on their way to the village...
Reno could practically see their mako-irradiated forms coming-- their numbers were causing some major eddies in the Lifestream...
He stiffened. "Ami, we gotta step on it..."

"What? What's up?" Ami knew Reno sounding urgent and serious and stuff had to mean something VERY bad. Kamryn and Kidd joined the group...
"Looks like this place ain't as remote as Sunny was sayin', yo... Shinra's got his whole d**n army coming down on us!" Reno said, his voice just below yelling decibels.
Ami clapped a hand over his mouth. "Shut up! You'll make the whole village panic!"
Rude found Dimitri...

The general from the gates turned slowly to Reno. "What... did you just say?" He didn't wait for an answer. His rage was at the point of overflow. "You and your people have only been here for a few hours, and nothing but evil has come from it! Demons, darkness, sickness, and now... Shin-ra. This is unthinkable! I was willing to bring this issue before the council, but at this point, even the thought of it is trivial. I hereby banish you all from Djillaywaska, never to return!"
Gdosimirj overheard him from nearby, where she was helping a wounded girl. She leapt to her feet. "I'm staying."
The general nearly popped a vein. "You are the one who led them here! Your offense is just as bad, if not worse, than the mainland demons!"
Gdosimirj winced. "I understand that now. We should never have come. I hoped it wouldn't come to this... but my worst nightmare has been realized." She snapped from her gloom and glared at him. "But I am the only one among your ranks who understands the inner workings of Shin-ra! I can help you defeat-"
He stopped her. "Whoa, among MY ranks? Who ever said you even had the honor of fighting for us?"
"I do. I may not deserve it, but... you need me."
He stepped to her, getting right in her face. "My troops depart in five counts. You may lead your friends out with them to fight. But unless you destroy or turn back every last one of them, I never want to see your face in this village again."
Her Shin-ra training kicked in. "Sir, yes sir!"
He glared at her in disdain before walking off to shout more orders at his troops. "You salute like a mainlander."
Gdosimirj turned to the others. "We have to get moving. I can take you on a path that circumnavigates the main trail to the village and then let you find your way back to the ship. But then I have to leave you to fight with my comrades."

Ami looked around. This decision is gonna be tough. "Guys, I think they might need our help... but there is one other thing to consider. These creeps are all after ME. If we can lure them away, maybe there won't need to be a fight at all." She thought for a moment. "Sunset, do you want us to fight along with you, or should we leave while we still can?"
Rude registered his opinion. "Staying here to fight will do no good, Amnesty. These aren't the security staff fodder that your brothers use for punching bags. These are SOLDIERs. It only took one to overwhelm Kadaj... and battalions are on their way. You will be captured and the rest of us killed if we stay."
Ami considered his words carefully. "I just don't want these villagers to get hurt for my sake."
"In which case, we'll need a diversion..." Reno said thoughtfully. "In the pitch black like this, that ought not be too hard, yo."
Ami turned back to Sunset. "Looks like the ayes have it. We're going. Lead the way."

nikky watched them silently. more fighting? ug... if i get even more hurt someones gonna get killed.... she chewed her lip to distract herself some.
kaman groaned slightly. peachy.... but i could help by using my powers.... with the soldiers as puppets i could turn them against eachother..... he considered telling ami.
