Ami turned to Kamen. "What do you mean, not so sure? I haven't seen you eat a crumb since I met you... eat!" Her joviality and maternality was at least temporarily restored...
She saw his wrist contract slightly. She gasped. "What the..." She met Kamen's eyes. "Kamen... what's happening to you?"

Reno finished off the meat, some of the ale's effects beginning to wear off. "Hey, trader, got any more booze, yo?"
Rude shook his head. "Reno, no more sauce for you."
Reno tried to look at his partner and to his surprise felt rage bubbling up inside him. He bottled it... That creep Axel probably has something to do with this. He turned his attention to Nikky and smiled. "I know... nothing wrong with being a Renaissance man, though, right?"

Ladjinne interrupted her. "Listen to you! 'It's!' 'It's!' Where did you pick up such language?!"
Gdosimirj now couldn't stop laughing. "And where did you pick up such manners? As I was saying before I was interrupted, IT'S not called Perfectly Normal Beast. It's called tecabu. It's just a large bovine-boar crossbreed type creature. They proliferate at a great rate in these forests, and the karoid hunt them. So do we. There's a legend about them having medicinal, even magical properties. Our clan's general life expectancy is upwards of 85 years, so I would agree-"
"You are getting into statistics again, Gdosimirj," Ladjinne interrupted, continuing to dish out the meat. "Can you not see they are falling asleep?" Gdosimirj punched him in the arm.

nikky laughed and nodded.
kamen stared at her before hiding his hands in his pockets. he looked away. ''nothing that can be stopped...'' he said quietly, no more than a whisper. he felt the sudden pang of hunger and stumbled slightly. he took a shaky breath and sighed.

Her laughing slowed as she noticed Ami's concern, and then looked at Kamen. Something was not right. "Kamen, you need to eat something... what's going on?" Even Ladjinne slowed in his clowning about.

Ami took Kamen's shoulders and shook him slightly, her intial shock giving way to a business-like tone... "Kamen, what's going on? Don't spare us the details... we care about you. Let us help you." It was a message of compassion, but it sounded like a military order coming from her.
She looked up at Sunset. "Get a doctor."

Reno grinned... he loved making Nikky laugh. He tried again. "Ever tell you about this one time... I think I was twelve... I started this food fight during a field trip to the SOLDIER training facility?"
He snickered into his meat. "I thought they were gonna flog me for that one..."
He got a feeling of something happening outside and desperately tried to ignore it. I don't know who or what gave me this power, but I DON'T WANT IT. LEAVE ME ALONE.

kamen jarred slightly from being shook. he stumbled more and tried not to look at her. ''its nothing really... please....'' he closed his eyes. ''you don't care....'' he said barely able to hear. his wrist stung with a searing pain as a symbol burned into his skin. they couldn't see it yet, but the pain was hard to ignore.

She ran.
Gdosimirj wasn't sure whether a doctor would help, but she was willing to take a chance. She reached the doctor's hut about halfway down the street and knocked rapidly, but nobody answered. She groaned and sprinted to the medical facility across the street.
One of the nurses met her at the door. "He is seeing a patient-"
Gdosimirj cut her off. "This is a medical emergency! Can't he get away?" The nurse could see her urgency.
"I'll see what I can do."
A few moments later, the doctor met her at the door with a frown on his face. "Where?"
She pointed. "The square, by the fire. Hurry!" They rushed back to the scene, Gdosimirj praying it wasn't too late.

Reno tried to grin back, but the itch had become a sting again... He got up casually. "Say, uh... let's get some fresh air, huh?" He headed for the door. OK, you win... this time... but sooner or later I'm gonna get my own back. "Bar fights... sounds interesting..."

"Don't talk nonsense," Ami ordered. "We do too care-- don't be silly." She tried to soften her tone. "Kamen, we want you to have a chance. Don't just give up... we've brought you this far."

kamen noticed that he could no longer hear her, his eyesight blurred as he swayed and collapsed.
nikky nodded and followed. ''yeah... they were fun, bloody and brutal but fun...''

The doctor arrived on the scene, immediately discerning who was in trouble. "We need to get him to the medic right away!" He pulled a square net out of his bag and unfolded next to Kamen. One of the nurses who followed him helped him lift Kamen by and ankles as he lifted him by the wrists. But when he set Kamen down, he drew away from one of Kamen's wrists. "Hot!" He looked closer at Kamen's wrist. "What in the world...?"
He and the nurse picked up two corners of the next each and carefully ran him back to the medic.
Gdosimirj followed, biting her nails and frowning, her brows knit. Ladjinne frowned in turn. "I have never seen you so concerned, Gdosimirj..."

Ami caught him before he could topple to the ground. The flash came into her head again... Falling into an enemy's arms...
She stood back and let the doctors load him onto the net. What can I do?
She followed the nurse and doctor, keeping pace with them and holding Kamen's hand. "Come on, kid, snap out of it!"

Reno heard Ami's cry and moved to see what was wrong... and froze when he saw Kamen was the one in trouble. "Oh, G**..." Get yourself another avatar. I'm done here. Don't ask me to save his pitiful little life... He felt stuck like a compass needle in the midst of lodestone territory, not knowing which way to turn. If I turn back, what will the others think... what will Nikky think...? He robotically went after the comatose boy, not knowing what to think or do... Figure it out on the fly, Reno. It's always worked before.

kamen shook and choked slightly as he tried to wake up. he gasped slightly and tightened his grip on amis hand slightly.. he couldn't form words but he heard ami and everyone now.
nikky gasped and followed. omg kamen... don't die... please don't die.
