Kadaj counted back down from ten one more time, and then it was time to show hands... He and Yazoo had, respectively, scissors and paper. Kadaj glanced across to Kamen. Sozzled as he was himself, he could tell that Kamen was having one bloody time of it... Don't pass out, don't pass out, don't pass out... stay awake long enough to get another drink... He smirked. Just one more... and you're one of us.
****
It was getting harder and harder for Reno to keep control... not as if he really wanted to anyway... She's so d**n hot... It's almost enough to make me look bad... His conscious thoughts were blurring almost as badly as his vision. He'd been propelled by impulse earlier, but now it was starting to take over... He kissed her harder, more roughly, pushing himself down against her... sliding his hands under her and down her back towards her waist...
****
Ami and Vincent, on their way back to the fire circle, realized that the sounds of the party were considerably more muted now. "What are they doing?" Ami wondered.
Vincent waited a moment before answering. "A lot of things that seemed like a good idea at the time."
Ami glanced at him and shook her head. "If I didn't know better, I'd swear you were trying to be funny."
"It's hardly a laughing matter, Amnesty."
She half-laughed. "You should host your own PSA. Friends Don't Let Friends Drink and Get Ideas."
He finally looked at her (About time, she thought) and asked, "Why are you in the perpetual habit of trying to make me smile?"
She grinned slyly back at him. "I am drawn to the impossible."
He merely blinked. "You try too hard."
"What can I say? I'm incorrigible." She yawned a bit. "I think I'll let the party animals have their fun... I've had a long day." She made her way back towards the tents, avoiding the party entirely. "If you see Squall, tell him to..." Her eyes twinkled a bit. "Tell him to catch up with me later."
Vincent silently followed her as far as the log dwelling, far enough removed from the fire circle to allow sleep in spite of the ongoing marrymaking. She started when she turned around and noticed he was still there... "I thought you went back to the celebration."
"I didn't think you should be out walking through the woods alone."
She looked incredulous. "Vincent, the fire circle is barely a hundred feet away."
He stood there, arms crossed. "Old habits die hard."
Amnesty was slightly confused by this non sequitur and it showed. He motioned her to save her questions. "After we return... you will understand." He turned away to leave her alone. "Good night, Amnesty."
"Night," she replied, not a little bit mystified. Oh, well. What's the world without mystery in it, anyway? She went inside the structure, ready to retire at last...
Vincent never did go back to the fire circle. There was no place for him there.
He perched himself in a tree that looked over the camp and stayed there for the rest of the night, more often than not glancing down at that rough structure made of destroyed trees, with a glittering white dress hanging outside it from an untrimmed branch...

Kamen was trying to concentrate. He forgot some aspect of the game and through out rock. Rock, paper, scissors. That was the game right? lol Kamen stared at his hand a minute before realizing. Hey wait... I lost. He looked from Yazoo to Kadaj before picking up his calabash. He had a weird, fuzzy feeling about them right now... but he was too fuddled to know.
Nikky felt him deepen but had hardly the brain function to stop and think about it. Instead she found herself drawn to it and pushed back up against him, gingerly letting her hands run across his shoulders and grip on a bit. She kissed him back, strangely thinking about their wedding....

Kadaj grinned. "Another tie. Down 'em." He and Yazoo picked up their drinks for another gulp... Yazoo took his fairly well, but Kadaj seemed halfway ready to lose his balance. "Whoa..." He wobbled a little, nearly toppling, but he regained himself just in time. He started giggling to himself at his near mishap, and shortly after, began giggling again for no apparent reason.
Yazoo stared at him. "What's funny?"
Kadaj put his head forward into his hand and shook with mirth. "I dunno. Hee hee hee..."
Yazoo watched as he got unsteadily to his feet and announced, "I'm gonna go over there now." He started walking, but his limbs seemed to be threatening a strike.
Yazoo had to rush over and park him on a log before he fell over. "I think you had better stay sitting down for now."
"OK," Kadaj agreed, still giggling like a maniac, trying to get back up.
Yazoo put him down again. "Yeah, you just sit down now."
"I'm gonna sit down now," Kadaj agreed, snickering into his hand.
Yazoo glanced back at Kamen. "Come on, you know the rules. No such thing as stalemate. Down it." You've had your show... now it's our turn.
****
The returned kiss was intoxicating Reno still further... he felt like he was dissolving... half-dreaming... he barely percieved his hands roaming, all over her, touching her everywhere... his body rubbing against hers... he moaned quietly and let everything solid disappear, leaving nothing but the feelings...

Kamen laughed a little at Kadaj. They weren't so stiff and stone like now... He glanced at Yazoo and nodded. "Yeah, yeah. I know..." He lifted the calabash to his lips with slightly shaky hands before taking a longer swig of it. He set it down and made a funny face... What the... h*ll...??
Nikky sighed slightly and smiled as she kissed his back and moved with him like it was some sort of dance. She broke of the kiss and nuzzled his neck, kissing and nipping at his skin.

Yazoo stood over the boy and watched him... He had to observe him carefully. Sometimes the "spike" had unexpected side effects, especially in younger humans... he had observed once upon a time that it reduced children below the age of fourteen to a near-catatonic state. However, as Kamen was somewhat above that mark, he hoped it wouldn't come to that.
Just relax, he instructed, slipping the communication into the young Puppetmaster's mind through the genetic link they now shared. A smirk slowly appeared. Welcome to the family.
Kadaj kept giggling... incessantly. He pointed at Kamen's eyes. "It's working, ha ha ha..."
****
Reno embraced her... moved with her... her grace almost made him feel clumsy... his entire self was reaching for her... he had been with some awesome girls in his time, but they couldn't even approach this... for lack of a better expression, she was completely, undoubtedly, and absolutely rocking his world. When are they gonna come stop us... The bizarre thought drifted across the mist-obscured regions of Reno's mind. When are they gonna catch us... A flash of clarity. They won't stop us this time... I just know it... don't know how, I just know. This time... we go all the way. That was the last conscious, coherent notion that occurred to him until morning...
((And this is the part where we very politely avert our eyes...))

Kamen's eyes widened as he scooted, well tried to scoot, away from him. He stared at him and swallowed, feeling rather sick... What... what's going on?? He found everything really funny and wasn't sure what was going on. What was going on...?? He blinked a few times, trying to focus.... wait. What'd you do to me...?? He sounded slightly more serious, now piecing together things... this was weird. There was a connection that he didn't put up.....

Easy, Kamen... take it easy. This is only temporary. He looked aound for something with a reflective surface... he quickly borrowed Kadaj's sword. Kadaj was by this time almost catatonic himself and barely even noticed.
He handed it over to Kamen. Take a look at yourself... and don't panic. He crossed his arms and watched the boy smugly. Amnesty decided to take you under her wing as a surrogate brother. Well... I feel it's time you understood the full weight of that decision. Don't worry about it being too dark to see your reflection... that rule no longer applies to you.

Kamen frowned, unsure of this whole thing. He took the sword and sent an almost glare at him before looking at himself in it. I don't see what the big deal is... why does everyone pick on me- He stopped abruptly when he actually saw himself... Oh my... g*d... His eyes were... different; Cat-like. His sight was a lot better now that he thought about it... g*d he felt sick. He groaned slightly. Is this... permanent?? He had gotten used to this mental chat... He set down the sword, his arm feeling funny, and looked over at Yazoo, slightly panicked.

I told you already, Kamen, it's temporary. The Spike wears off in about 18 hours.
Yazoo picked up the sword and gave it back to Kadaj, who shot an irritated look at him. Who said you could borrow my sword?
I'm not borrowing it. I'm giving it back.
Oh. Whatever. Kadaj lapsed back into a drunken silence.
Yazoo shook his head. The other two have their more extravagant strengths... but I can drink them both under the table. He sat down next to the boy, wearing a Chesire cat grin. How does it feel to be one of us?

Kamen listened to them in mild amazement and shock. He was still getting used to this new and strange feeling. His hearing was acute to the point he wanted to plug his ears. He wasn't used to be able to hear so much. And Kadaj looked a whole lot clearer now from where he was...
He looked back at Yazoo, new mako eyes slightly narrowed. I feel sick, most of my fuctions are still wacked and loose, my eyes look funny and I can hear things I think I could have done without, and you're giving me a look that makes me want to think you planned this while I was figuring out how to count to ten.... He puased to let it sink in. More for himself since he felt more sober....
How do you think I feel...?? His tone had a little less bite to it and was more curious. He didn't sound too angry... if anything he was even amused.

Yazoo's grin widened. I think you sound like you're acclimating to this. At least now you can tell why I don't speak often... I prefer this.
The one thing you won't have which we do is the memetic legacy... that is, you haven't inherited the memories of your ancestors like we have. I warn you, we may be able to influence your actions... but that exchange works both ways. You seem to be getting used to this far more quickly than humans do commonly... hmm. It's a distinct possibility that you may have Seraph in your ancestry somewhere. It would explain your mental capacities.
He rose. I need to get Kadaj back to the shelter before he hurts himself. He's got to sleep this off.
He pulled his brother off the log and started leading him back to the tents. He glanced at Kamen. Tomorrow I'll show you how to handle your new potential. You can stay the night with us if you prefer, or remain in your own shelter. Either way, we start at sunrise. He started heading away from the fire circle. I'll be back for Loz... have your mind made up by then.

Kamen nodded. Alright... I'll think about. He mulled it over and he stood wobbly. He looked around, still thinking this all through and getting used to all this. If he got past the queezy feeling and strange random movements it was kinda cool... but he would rather slit his throat then admit it right now.... not really.
He looked at Loz and focused in on his, curious to how far his new 'powers' went. He paced like usual, getting his normal fuctions back slowly. His eyes caught everything, as did his ears and it was kind of bugging him... but he wasn't sure if he was tired or not...
Wait... will this give me nightmares?? He pondered that for a bit.

Yazoo returned and hoisted Loz onto his shoulders. Loz was not a slightly built man, but Yazoo picked him up as if he were a bag of flour. He glanced at Kamen. Coming? You don't have to... I just thought you might want some company.
Yazoo, a born Seraph, knew what community meant to his kind. Its entire society was based on the family unit... A Seraph alone was not complete.

Kamen looked over at him and watched him pick up Loz. He looked up and into his eyes. Sure. I'll come. He smiled faintly, his brain now going back to working full time.... well, making up for lost time that is. I think I'd freak myself out if I was alone too long. His smile leaned more towards a grin.

Yazoo nodded. Come on, then.
He led the way back to the rough shelter he and the others had somehow thrown together. Amnesty was already inside, changed back into her own clothes for the night-- a white tank top and black shorts, her black hair hanging loose. She lay sleeping peacefully at the back of the shelter, wearing a faint smile. Kadaj lay in a heap, out cold, in the opposite corner, wearing all his clothes and with his sword still strapped on. He kept muttering incoherently.
Don't mind that... he does that every night. Sometimes he carries out whole conversations with himself. It's better than cable TV. Yazoo dumped Yazoo near the entrace of the shelter, and took a post opposite him, removing his guns and laying them beside him. Plenty of room in the middle of the shelter. Whatever you need you can use, but let Ami know when you take her things first. For some reason it annoys her unless you warn her in advance. He shrugged. She's always had these strange quirks... probably has something to to with being mostly human. Being female may have something to do with it, too...
He stretched out slightly, back against the wall. Good night... little brother. He smiled... that still, distant smile that made people wonder what spaceship stole his brain that morning. But a little bit of warmth managed to sneak into it...
