He saw her standing beside him and he jumped... he shook his head. "I really can't talk about it..."
He stopped walking. He felt Kamen pumping energy into him... Rude stalking off after Aztar... Ami wondering what his problem was... Nikky's concern for him.
He looked down at her, blinking a little more frequently than usual... and embraced her desperately, despair washing through him. No matter what I do... no matter what... we're all going to die... He felt like he was right on the verge of crying... and realized he already was. He was too abjectly depressed to care about how embarassing this should have been... he just held her and kissed her, feeling the pain break him.
Amnesty was prepared to have a heart attack. "Oh. My. G**." He's CRYING. I don't believe this. She stood there, slack jawed. This is just not Reno. OK, who took over Red's body? She could not make that thought funny to herself, so she didn't bother repeating it out loud. "Oh, my G**..." she said again. She had to turn away. This is insane...

kamen looked at ami before looking at reno. he sighed and bowed his head.
nikky gasped slightly and hugged him. ''oh baby what wrong.... please tell me.'' she held him tight. ''i want to help you....'' she felt like crying.

He let the tears stream down... it was beyond him to stop them now. "Nikky... I'm sorry... I should have told you..." He held her tighter, the gloom too much to stand. He swallowed, trying to keep himself from shuddering so horribly. "Nikky... I love you... I don't want to leave you... but I'm dying..." He held her tighter, terrified of what this might do to her, but knowing he couldn't keep it secret any more. "This planet... it's falling apart... if it doesn't, it's still going to end, no matter what happens... no matter what we do, we can't be together..." He was shaking now, all the way down to his core. "If I die... you still have a chance... you can go in Squall's ship to another world... you can live... but I can't... unless I die, millions of people are just going to keep on suffering, and for nothing..." He was breaking down altogether. His whole life was coming to an end... everything was coming to an end...
Ami heard and did not understand... It's still going to end? What does that mean?
She got a flash in her mind... Xima and Rufus, standing together in the helicopter... watching the cloning facility burn... kissing one another passionately... their child watching them solemnly...
She blinked and gasped, her eyes wide. "Oh, no..." Oh, G**.... Oh, G**, no.

nikky held him and comforted him. ''shhh shh no... reno.... of course everything dies. we all die at some point.... its the depressing fact of life. but that doesn't mean we can't live in the moment. you don't have to give up... even a few hours or days of life is worth fighting for.... please reno.'' she stroked his hair and let him cry.
kamen grew solemn and quiet.

He held onto her, the shaking subsiding. "Nikky... I didn't want to hurt you..." He wiped his eyes. "That's all I was afraid of... I'm not afraid to die... I just didn't want to leave you alone..." He managed to straighten back up, just a little. He took a deep breath, trying to pull himself together, at least for now... He looked into her eyes and caressed her face. "I swear I'm going to stay here with you until the very end... I don't care if that's in five minutes or five years or five hundred years... I love you." He held her to him again. "I love you so much... I'll fight for every minute I can get with you." Someday, I DO want to marry you... if only I could live long enough... I won't make you a widow.
He looked at Kamen and turned to face him, his arm still around Nikky's shoulders. "Kamen..." He shifted his weight slightly. "I guess the game is up... you don't have to keep me alive anymore... but that doesn't mean we can't..." He sighed. "Be friends, sort of... I guess." He looked up to shake hands with him. Take your energy back... I've got no use for it anymore.
Ami clenched her fists... "The world doesn't have to end," she snarled. "This is Xima's doing... if we stop her, then we can set things right." She stared at Reno, her eyes filled with defiance. "I won't let her beat ME... and I sure as h**l won't let her beat you." Ami stood stiffly, ramrod straight, her resolve set. "We're going to stop Aztar... and then, Xima's next." This is MY world, Xima... I won't let it die.
If you say so... foolish one.
Ami turned to Nikky. "Don't you be scared... he's going to live, I swear on my brother's graves." She turned to him. "You got that, Reno? I swear."
He looked to her and nodded. "I got you." He gave her a tiny smile.
She smiled back. "I'm going to find Rude."
She lit out in the direction she'd seen him going.

nikky held him and nodded. ''i know..... i love you too reno....''
kamen shook hands with him and nodded slightly. i will not take it back reno... that would kill you. he smiled fully. ''and i would enjoy at least being in your company for as long as i can....'' he let his hand go and looked to ami.
nikky blinked at her but nodded. ''okay.... i won't.''
they both watched her go.

Ami found Rude standing at the observation point above the Lifestream's flow, glaring down into it. "Come out here, b*****d..." he was saying under his breath. You are NOT going to kill my partner...
Amnesty tapped his shoulder. He turned to look at her. "This is as far as I can follow him... nobody can jump in there without getting himself killed."
She nodded. "I know... except for certain genetically enhanced supersoldiers who get themselves frozen into Mako crystals." She grinned at him ironically before lapsing back into seriousness. "You should be proud of your partner... He just did something very brave."
He sighed. "So Nikky knows now, huh?"
Ami nodded again. "Right. He said the world would end no matter what we did, and he'd rather give her a chance to live by dying himself." She glanced at Rude. "He said he didn't want more people to suffer... I always knew he was good in a fight. Never knew he was a hero."
Rude mulled that over and shrugged. "Yeah... guess that takes awhile to find out about him." He kept staring into the Lifestream. "So what's the plan now, then, general?"
She shrugged. "If we can stop Xima and Rufus, we can keep the world safe... but till then, we got to see this Aztar guy go down."
Rude maintained his watch. "Exactly what I was thinking."

Reno looked at the others, especially at Nikky. "Well, guys... what are we waiting for?" He put on a faded grin. "Let's go get that SOB. Can't let Ami and the straightman have all the fun, can we?"
He kissed the top of Nikky's head and began to walk with her towards the Lifestream. This is either the end, or the beginning... because I know... if I survive this, I'm not gonna wait around for destiny to choose its own time. I'm marrying you.
They stood at the point. And Kamen... by the way... thank you. He took a deep breath. Spent all that time hating the kid... for what? He shook his head. That's all over... we're all in this together now... He looked down at Nikky. For better or worse.
Ami glanced back at the others and waited for Aztar to appear... "Aztar! Come out here... we're not leaving until you show your G**-d**ned face!"

nikky grinned and nodded. ''no one takes away my boyfriend...'' she closed her eyes and smiled at the kiss before following him.
kamen trailed behind. he stayed silent and watched his feet.

Ami dropped back slightly to meet Kamen. She smiled at him. "You were ready to risk your life for someone else... someone who wasn't even your friend... even though you knew he might still die anyway." She looked at him, and saw someone else standing in his place... a boy who ran away from home and sold his soul for the chance to save his sister's life...
She hugged him. "From now on, you're more than my friend. You're a brother to me."
She let him go and turned to Reno and Rude. "As are the two of you." She turned to Nikky and smiled. "And it'll be nice to have an older sister for once." She turned back to the Lifestream and waited. Family. Blood's got nothing to do with it... that's who we are.

he stared at her sadly and nodded. he was slightly taken aback by the hug but hugged her back. ''t-thank you....'' he said quietly backing and smiling.
nikky grinned. ''i promise i won't be too mean....'' i already lost my brother and sister.... i won't loose another.

The lifestream flowed back and forth as time passed the stream slowly rose higher and higher to the top of the cliff. the old man named Aztar flew out of the stream and into the air right infront of the group....
Aztar: "So you all have come....come to stop me I asume, I already told you nothing can stop this...'
Lutz dashed into the scene.
Lutz: "I am willing to fight for a different fate as long as I am alive and I know as long as my friends are alive we will not let this planet fall!"

Ami watched Lutz. He, too, is like family to me... sure, he's kinda hairier than the rest of my relatives, but what the h**l. "That's my general philosophy, too, Lutz m'boy," she grinned. She turned her gaze towards Aztar, her eyes pouring acidic hate. "I've seen the Lifestream steal three of my brothers. It won't touch another member of my family, no way!" She pulled her swords semi-reflexively.
Reno hooted in encouragement. "Testify, sister!"
Ami stood before the ancient-looking wizard. "In fact, tell ya what... maybe I'll just pull my brothers outta the Stream before we get into this... it'll decrease your power, not a lot, not a lot at all, but just the same! And lemme tell ya what else, since you're gonna wreck the Stream anyway, maybe they won't have to go back this time, so you'd actually be doing me a favor..." The look in her eyes was getting wilder and wilder.
Reno coughed. "Uh, Ami? Are you nuts!"
"YES!" She spread her arms and spun around in a circle. "I'm NUTS! I'm having a nervous breakdown!" She screamed some gibberish into Aztar's face.
Reno grabbed her by the shoulders, speaking quietly and patiently. "Ami, take a moment, breathe deeply, close your eyes and count to ten..." He started to shake her violently. "GET A HOLD OF YOURSELF!!!" He continued to shake her, yelling incoherently
Rude grabbed him from behind, spun him around, and slapped him across the face.
Reno stopped. "Thanks, I needed that... but a man does NOT slap another man!"
"He does when the other man is acting like a python on acid..."
They started bickering. Ami got in between them. "EVERYBODY SHUT UP!"
"Yes, ma'am," they answered in unison.
She glared at Aztar. "You think you're gonna snuff out a classic slapstick act like this, you got another thing coming, buddy!"
She primed herself for battle. "GAME ON!"
She led the charge at the old wizard-looking man, Reno right behind her...
"I can stop this!" Ami screamed, swiping at him. "I know what is going to destroy this world... I can stop her! Just give me time!"

Aztar looked at Amnesty with interest
Aztar: "The one you speak of is Xima....Her birth is the beginning of your planets destruction....stopping her does not matter, what matters is the rebirth of life...starting over where this planet had failed."
Aztar rose his hands causing the earth to shake. Rocks fell from the walls above.
Lutz: "NO Aztar I will not let you do this!"
He tossed a fireball at Aztar nailing him but doing almost nothing to him. Aztar glared at Lutz.
Aztar: "Young Maloki I see the passion you have for this planet is great, but I will mean you end quicker then expected...."
Lutz: "My love lays with my friends!"
Aztar landed swiftly on the ground where the rest of the group was.
Aztar: "lets test your Love for everything good..."

"Test THIS!" Reno came in swinging at him.
Ami followed, her swords flashing. "She IS me... I can beat her, I know it! What do you mean, the 'rebirth of life'? Rebirth at the cost of planetwide death? You're mad!"
Rude prepared to support the two, wishing he'd had time to repair the Sacrifice...

Aztar sent a shockwave knocking back the three attacks.
Aztar: "Stubborn you all are even to the point of destruction you all fight, and for what you all should be enjoying your last moments on this planet...."
Lutz: "Yes but we intend on living as long as we can not being cut off from our time because of you think its best for the planet!"
Lutz launched two more fireballs at Aztar, but Aztar quickly casted a lifestream shield blocking the attacks.
